In the early 1900s, Café De La Paix advertised the now iconic bistro table with “Une table à vous, seule à vous,” signaling a profound shift in how we dine and connect. In the past, people gathered at communal tables, sharing meals and conversation with complete strangers, unaware of the gift of solitude. But now, this new, tiny table casts a deliberate silence over these public places. And we learn that to be surrounded by many and yet share your space with but a few, (or no-one), is a wonderful luxury. Cafés have understood what we have long overlooked. The simple café table speaks to something deeper—not our need for company, but our need for choice. To be able to choose who sits beside us. To be able to decide when silence is more valuable than words. The crowd may surround you, but this little table is yours and yours alone. The small café table represents something we now experience without much thought: the ability to decide who we interact with, when to engage, and when to enjoy our own company. That is a privilege we often take for granted.

Love this article from Miranda Haney on home baristas. One of my favorite things to do is talk to people who are looking to make better coffee at home and want to know how. Often it's just learning that they can ask their local roaster to grind the beans for them and that's okay! Like Miranda said, "As an industry, it’s essential to welcome home brewers into our events and competitions and to celebrate their diversity, curiosity, and passion for coffee." Also, if you are looking to grow your coffee skills at home, check out Miranda's work and classes at Barista Friend! https://lnkd.in/gPKfpBC6

Founder of PDG Global & Coffee Intelligence. A group focused exclusively on the coffee sector: from publishing to digital marketing and trade shows.
"As #specialtycoffee has evolved in recent years, so too has the role of the #barista. Now more than ever, serving great coffee and welcoming customers is seen by many as the bare minimum. Baristas also need to disseminate accessible information about coffee production and act as a bridge between producers and consumers." In this article, Leah Bowman spoke with Roosa Jalonen, European Sales Director at Forest Coffee and competition coach, and Carlos Medina, head roaster at Espacio Tuesta and 2023 World Brewers Cup Champion to learn more about how baristas have had to adapt to today's coffee industry increasing reliance on #automation.
