Interesting discussion today facing all American gov departments. AI is emerging as key to cyber attacks as well as security. Gov has too many holes that need to be filled, but limited resources technical and HR available. Time to act before aggressor states gain the upper hand.

This is a great example of how AI can distinguish between a threat and a legitimate user your employees can correspond with. Think of how much time and money this can save not having to directly engage the cybersecurity team. #emailsecurity #cybersecurity #phishing #abnormalsecurity #behuman

One of the most surprising things I found from updating my cybersecurity skills these last few weeks, was how much loss is attributed to human error. This HBR article suggests the impact of cybercrime was expected to reach $10 trillion in 2023 (and set to raise to $24 trillion by 2027), it’s understood that over 80% of the loss comes from us humans clicking on false email links (phishing attacks) or social engineering attacks (i.e., not checking an email address when responding to an urgent email from the boss and giving the hackers access to your highly secure internal systems). But whilst AI is busy changing the story, it appears to be coming to the rescue in preventing data breaches and cyber crime (like intellectual property theft). Clearly, carrying out the basics of defence, such as regularly changing passwords and enabling multi-factor authentication (MFA) will lower the likelihood of loss, it’ll be interesting to see how tech plays a part in this ongoing war. #cybersecurity https://lnkd.in/dy2k9C57

For cybercriminals, artificial intelligence (AI) is simultaneously lowering the barrier of entry and levelling up the scope and scale of deception that can be achieved using otherwise benign information. I recently spoke with Will Mace, senior journalist at The National Business Review, on how cybercriminals are leveraging AI to participate in 'generative profiling' and power-up password 'spraying'. We also discussed the findings of the Cyber Threat Predictions for 2024 whitepaper, including how criminals looking for big payouts are turning their focus to critical industries such as healthcare, utilities, manufacturing, and finance. Business Email Compromise (BEC) is a type of cyber threat that aims to manipulate people into acting in the interests of a cyber criminal. These threats often involve the impersonation of a trusted individual who appears to request sensitive information and/or the transfer of funds. These threats are among the most expensive types of threats to contend with, and cost businesses billions of dollars in clean-up costs each year. Business Email Compromise (BEC) attacks are quietly proliferating in large-part due to developments in the field of artificial intelligence. Current BEC threats were written with the help of AI.
