Breakdown of Crowdstrike that caused Microsoft outage. The recent Microsoft outage, impacted numerous services, due to a CrowdStrike software update. This was not a cyber attack but a classic programming oversight: a null pointer error. In simple terms, the software attempted to access memory location 0x9c based on an invalid pointer (essentially a zero value). This led to the infamous "Blue Screen of Death" (BSOD) as Windows shut down the offending process. parameter[0] = 0x0 = NULL parameter[1] = 0x9c = 156 NULL + 0x9c = 0x9c = 156 The program tried to a memory address 0x9c which is an invalid region, hence killed by Windows. As this is a System Driver program the OS crashed immediately. This could have been skipped if a NULL check had been done.

CrowdStrike's Falcon Sensor update malfunctioned, affecting Windows systems globally.
