📢 International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies, 7 September 2024 Since 2020, the international community has been celebrating International Day of Clean Air 💨 for Blue Skies, with a different theme selected for each year. Previous years themes included: ➡ 2023 Together for Clean Air ➡ 2022 The Air We Share ➡ 2021 Healthy Air, Healthy Planet ➡ 2020 Clean Air for All The theme for International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies 2024 is Invest in #CleanAirNow. Our first contact with the world 🌍. What we inhale 12 times a minute. It keeps us alive or poisons us. 99% of us breathe polluted air. We can’t take it anymore. #AirPollution is the biggest environmental health risk of our time. It also exacerbates #ClimateChange, causes economic losses 💸, and reduces agricultural productivity. It knows no borders – everyone has a responsibility to protect our atmosphere and ensure healthy air for all. By collaborating across borders, sectors, and silos, we can reduce air pollution through collective investments of time, resources and efforts 🤝. Air pollution is a preventable problem 🤔. The solutions − laws, standards, policies, programmes, investments and technologies − are known! Implementing these solutions will of course entail large investments, but the benefits of fulfilling the right to breathe clean air for all of humanity are incalculable. This International Day 📅 of Clean Air for Blue Skies, we call upon everyone - from governments and corporations to civil society and individuals - to invest in #CleanAirNow. By tackling air pollution proactively, we can achieve transformative change and secure healthy air for all. #CleanAirMatters #FiltrationAmbassador #MANNHUMMEL #Sustainability https://lnkd.in/egydpTNc

As we marked Clean Air Day a few weeks ago, we’ve followed the theme of using our voice to combat air pollution. In this blog, we highlight the power of community engagement, behaviour change programmes and how we encourage citizens to become clean air champions by learning about hyperlocal air pollution data. Clean air is a fundamental right, yet achieving it requires effort from all sectors of society. When communities are genuinely involved in decisions that affect them, trust, credibility and a sense of ownership are built. Many #cities around the #world are implementing #groundbreaking measures to combat #airpollution, focusing on #innovative #technologies and policies. Some of these initiatives include: #Transition to #ElectricVehicles (EVs): Cities are encouraging the use of electric cars, buses, and even trucks to reduce emissions. This often comes with investments in EV infrastructure like charging stations. Examples include cities like Oslo, which offers incentives for EV owners, and Shenzhen, which has fully electrified its public bus fleet. #GreenUrbanSpaces: Increasing green spaces helps absorb pollutants. Cities like Singapore have embraced urban forests and vertical gardens, creating "green lungs" in densely populated areas. #LowEmissionZones (#LEZ): European cities like London, Paris, and Berlin have implemented LEZs, where only low-emission vehicles are allowed to enter certain areas. This policy significantly cuts down on vehicular pollution. #SmogEating #Buildings and #AirPurifiers: Innovative architecture is emerging, like the Palazzo Italia in Milan, designed with a special smog-eating concrete that absorbs pollution. Cities like New Delhi and Beijing have installed massive air purifiers to mitigate the effects of smog. #CleanEnergy #Initiatives: Many cities are transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources. Copenhagen, for instance, aims to be carbon-neutral by 2025 through wind power and biomass energy. #BikeSharing Programs and #Pedestrianization: To cut down on car usage, cities like Amsterdam and Copenhagen promote cycling through extensive bike-sharing programs. Pedestrian zones, like those in Madrid, also help reduce traffic-related emissions. These initiatives highlight the innovative ways cities are tackling air pollution and improving urban health.

Air quality has proven to extend or decrease life expectancy, however, to reduce air pollution it will take all the populations and the governments working together. Or is just surviving more important than air quality? I have seen in some places trucks only allowed on roads 6 pm to 6 am and this cuts down congestions, improved public transport, commitment to want changes to happen. Improving online access with greater speeds would also reduce the numbers on the roads. #aamctraining #educationwithoutborders

Action on #airpollution has a compounding effect on improving health and wellbeing, productivity and economic effects. It is a complex multi-sector issue which requires collaboration of public-private partnerships. From Air Quality Life Index report this year, it was shown that when countries enforce national standards, life expectancy improves. Air pollution, like many issues, is a highly unequal issue across cities in the world, as are policies which address it. On this lead up to International Day of BlueSkies, it’s important that we continue to demand better for future generations. The Alliance for Clean Air is one example of an alliance which champions the private sector role in reporting emissions. #sustainability #cleanair #worldcleanairday #cleanairnow

This National Clean Air Day, we're thinking about the efforts you can make to reduce emissions at your next event. Transport is a good example of how we can reduce air pollution and help to make our environment cleaner. If you or your team and guests are planning on driving or using a taxi at an upcoming event, why not choose public transport, such as trains, buses or trams instead. Small actions lead to effective impact. #NetZeroCarbonEvents #eventprofs #events #sustainability #sustainableevents #climatechange #nationalcleanairday #cleanairday JMIC Joint Meetings Industry Council
