Fathima Afrin, from Addalaichenai in the Ampara district, is a shining example of the transformative impact of empowerment and inclusive governance on individual lives and entire communities. Focusing on strengthening Community Centres (Praja Mandala), the Women in Inclusive Governance (WIG) project aims to create environments where women actively participate in decision-making processes within their communities. Afrin's particpation in several activities has led to a significant shift in her mindset, and this newfound confidence and skills have had a ripple effect, transforming the attitudes of her family members, including her parents, siblings, and extended family. "It's not just about what I've achieved; it's about being an example, especially to other women like me, that we can break free from traditional constraints and actively shape our community's future." At Chrysalis, we celebrate Afrin. Her determination, resilience, and newfound skills actively shaped their community's future. Taking a bold step forward, Afrin has decided to run for local government elections, aspiring to become a woman councilor of the Pradeshiya Sabha (the Local Authority) and advocate for women and girls. #Chrysalis #16DaysOfActivism #GenderBasedViolence #16Days2023 #InvestToPreventGBV #GBV #EndViolence #GlobalChange #PreventVAWG
