Thanks for having me on CNBC Overtime, Jon Fortt and Morgan L Brennan, to discuss the CrowdStrike and Microsoft fallout from today. My message was simple - this is a wakeup call for the industry to focus on one key word -- RESILIENCE!!! I am good friends with both George Kurtz and Satya Nadella, I am confident they will ensure that a combination of #CrowdStrike + #Microsoft offer even better "Integrated Lights-Out Management" for Windows systems + endpoint security in the future. These fixes to systems shouldn't have to be manual at all, they should be done much faster and in a more automated manner. Equally important, any software that is invasive to the operating system, like #CrowdStrike, needs to have even higher quality and enterprise robustness before software code releases. Finally, we at Cohesity remain committed to offering joint customers the best and fastest CYBER-RECOVERY of their DATA, in close partnership with both these security players (more on our website about how we can help for various scenarios). This is not a moment for ambulance chasing, or for competitors to do anything other than make the United States and the world, MORE RESILIENT. The next time this happens, it could well be nefarious attacks by nation-state actors... Recording here: https://lnkd.in/ghChcwyV

there were multiple levels of failure. a buggy update like this shouldn't have made it this far.

This is excellent commentary and advice Sanjay. Resiliency is as important as anything else these days. Whether in our family or personal life, at work, or even (most important) spiritually, we all get knocked down at some point, and the best thing we can do is come back quickly!

In addition to resilience, it should also be a wakeup call to fundamentally alter the dependency on centralized systems & IT infrastructure, and shift towards decentralized processing. I have no doubt that both George and Satya will ensure QC standards are even tighter and more robust; however we can mitigate future risk (incl. another massive outage) by implementing better options like blockchain technology (using decentralized computing).

This outage underscores the critical need for building resilient systems to prevent single points of failure. Need to rethink how updates are managed. Microsoft/other companies should reconsider allowing software to install/modify kernel-level drivers. Significant process and QA oversight.

Great interview Sanjay! This incident shows our reliance on automation as well as some of the inherent weaknesses. All opportunity though to do two things, 1. Build better systema with better ways to test before deploying (regression testing). 2. Have automated ways to revert to a last-known-good state. This brings me back to my EUC, SBC, and Thin Client expereince - still lots of merit to those architecture.
