A cost-effective way to reduce the risk of wildfire impact is by creating a defensible space, where vegetation, debris, and other combustible fuels are treated, cleared, or reduced to slow the spread of wildfire towards the structure. Yesterday, EQC became NHC Toka Tū Ake - Natural Hazards Commission Toka Tū Ake. This is significant. It recognises that future insurance claims and damage to property in Aotearoa is likely to be from floods, inundation and landslips as well as earthquakes. We also recognise this at NZGBC which is why the newest versions of both Green Star and Homestar include credits for resilience and adaptation. Despite great resources like https://lnkd.in/gN9HSwVs there is very little regard or requirements to account for resilience and future climate adaptation in the New Zealand building code. Councils and Territorial Authorities are also surprisingly powerless to prevent building in areas at risk of future floods or inundation. Yet another reason to use Homestar, Green Star and Green Star Communities tools to plan, design and build wisely.

The technical agenda was requested by the Municipal Department of Water and Sewage (DMAE) of Porto Alegre. 💦 The Dutch experts are part of the Dutch Disaster Risk Reduction and Surge Support (DRRS) program, based in The Hague, linked to the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) | Partner in Sustainable Development. DRRS works to prevent and mitigate the impacts of water- and climate-related disasters around the world, increasing the resilience of affected areas and populations. 🎯 The objective is to collect information, diagnose the situation caused by the floods and discuss action models. The agenda in Porto Alegre also includes meetings with the City of Porto Alegre and the Government of Rio Grande do Sul. 🌎The actions are being coordinated by the Dutch Diplomatic and Economic Network in Brazil, through the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Brazil, the Consulate General of São Paulo and the Dutch Business Office in the Southern Region of Brazil (NBSO Porto Alegre). 📢The Netherlands is globally recognized for its expertise in hydraulic engineering and innovations in water management. Technical intelligence and controlled actions play a fundamental role in ensuring water security in a country that has a large part of its territory below sea level. A detailed article on the continuing shortsighted and blind actions by so-called experts, damage by irresponsible us all and the inevitable disaster that awaits us.. We keep forgetting that the failures and disasters take time to show up, but when they do it is too late.. It’s time to think leave the nature alone and move away to get it recover by itself (both the former and consequently the latter will never happen).

At Vedrova, we are deeply concerned about the severe flooding sweeping across Central and Eastern Europe, and our thoughts are with all those affected by this devastating situation. The flooding is causing widespread disruption, with major countries like Hungary, Poland, Austria, Germany, and the Czech Republic facing significant road closures, damaged infrastructure, and rising water levels. In Hungary, the Vámosszabadi border bridge, a crucial link between Hungary and Slovakia, has been closed due to high water levels, impacting road traffic in the region. South-Western Poland is also heavily affected, with multiple sections of national roads and several bridges closed, creating significant delays. In Austria, over 250 roads have become impassable, and authorities are warning of potential landslides and further closures in mountainous regions. Germany’s Bavaria and Saxony are under flood alerts, and the Czech Republic is grappling with what has been called a “flood of the century,” with towns evacuated and rivers continuing to rise. These conditions are not only posing serious challenges to local communities but also significantly disrupting transportation routes, leading to longer transit times and reduced capacities. At Vedrova, we are closely monitoring the evolving situation to minimize the impact on logistics and supply chains, and we remain committed to supporting our partners and customers during this difficult time.
