Framework for growing your delivery sales.
(tried and tested)
In an hour-long podcast with Peter Backman and Jon Borzacchiello, we could not cover everything.
S, I thought to lay out the framework on how to grow your delivery sales 👇
STEP 1: Open your own delivery channel (use aggregates for deliveries with smaller basket sizes)
- After months of research, my choice is Andromeda POS
- IMO, this company offers the best delivery tech
- Full delivery solution from order to door
- E-commerce website and your own app. And much more…
STEP 2: Choose your preferred driver’s solution.
- I recommend 2-4 core drivers on shift and top up with Uber Direct
- Your tech needs to be integrated with drivers (Andromeda POS is)
STEP 3: Introduce incentives for customers to go direct
- Loyalty scheme
- Special offers which are available only on your site
STEP 4: Targeted marketing
- Each order follows up with an incentive for the next order
- The customer who orders directly 3 times will be yours forever
STEP 5: Monitor delivery KPIs
- 80% of deliveries under 30 minutes is a good start
- Choose a smaller delivery area
- 6-8 minutes drive time which translates to max 1.5-mile radius
STEP 6: Segregate your customers and target them with different incentives using automated marketing.
- Lapsed (those who used to order regularly and did not order for 3 months)
- Lazy (order not too often, once every month)
- Best (order every 1-2 weeks)

How important is value right now?
Robert Byrne, director of consumer and industry insights with Technomic, Inc., joins the Restaurant Business #podcast to talk about fast-food value.
There’s a lot of concern about traffic in the #fastfood world, with McDonald’s and Wendy’s saying that lower-income consumers are cutting back. McDonald’s specifically said that people are more likely to stay at home.
Byrne discusses whether this is a broad problem or more likely to hurt McDonald’s.

This week's Delivering The Digital Restaurant Podcast comes out on Monday. In it, we talk about...another podcast! This is getting pretty meta. Seriously Carl Orsbourn and I love all the restaurant podcasts out there, and Peter Backman's blog and podcast are no exception.
This week, Peter talked about the long-standing #restaurantindustry tradition that the small guys end up paying the way of the big guys. In this specific example, Peter was comparing the higher commissions that independent restaurants pay vs. the lower ones the big chains pay to the food costs that independents pay through wholesalers.
Why is the restaurant industry like this? Is it because of the extreme fragmentation of SMBs? Is it because of the real-time nature of so much of the revenue and cost?
If you're in the restaurant industry and like podcasts, the "A Deeper Dive" podcast from Restaurant Business Online with Jonathan Maze is an absolute must. I highly recommend giving it a listen! This week's episode is incredible. #restaurants#podcast
