For our second session yesterday, our Veterans and Employees Together in Service (VETS) Employee Resource Group hosted an impactful and informative session as part of our ongoing Week of Understanding. Our speaker and VETS ERG leader, Michael Press, presented on the topic of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), addressing the misconceptions versus the reality, and discussed the significant impact it can have on family members and friends of those who suffer from it. The session created a safe space for attendees to share their own experiences, and also ask questions. Some of our top takeaways from this session on how to support a Veteran suffering from PTSD include: ▪ Being a friend goes a long way. Offering your support can provide a sense of stability and comfort. ▪ Be understanding of what they are going through and make sure to check in regularly. ▪ Offering a listening ear and showing empathy can make a significant difference. ▪ PTSD symptoms can vary, and being aware of subtle indicators and changes in behavior can help you provide timely support.
