The tug-of-war between remote flexibility & compensation has become impossible to ignore. Since January, fully remote in-house legal roles have paid an average 7% less than similar roles with an in-person component. More broadly - 𝘢𝘭𝘭 remote roles since Jan have averaged 15% less pay. The demand for remote roles has remained steady, while the supply has dropped (esp. across non-tech sectors). 68% of all new in-house roles since Jan have been back to all 5 days in person. Many attorneys are now prioritizing remote work 𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳 compensation, and the market finally reacted. Not rocket science, I know. But important to be aware of. My advice to candidates? Not every job will force a choice between the 2, but I always want to set realistic expectations. I suggest you should seriously reflect on which is your #1 priority as we see how this continues to evolve.

Sr. Recruiter - I build the teams that build the satellites. Recruiting Truth Teller & Mythbuster. Somehow, LinkedIn Top Voice 2022
What does "REMOTE" really mean in recruiting? Let's f̸i̸g̸h̸t̸ talk about it. 😂 I don't wanna fight, y'all. But I DO want to help job seekers understand what this means 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙖 𝙏𝙖𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝘼𝙘𝙦𝙪𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙚. I had a LOT to say about this (and dropped some insight around accommodations at the end). Mostly I want y'all to STOP spending your precious emotion energy on the things that are easily explained and understood once you have clarification. (Pro-tip - recruiters 100% are responsible for providing that clarity/insight for the roles they're working on) Remote DOES NOT mean "work from anywhere". That may be one version of remote work, but there are (as usual) nuances to all of this impacted by not just company policies but tax implications, state/local/federal laws, and where a company is authorized to do business. Watch as many times as you need to before yelling at me in the comments please 😉 https://lnkd.in/g3ygRrbX #RemoteWork #WorkFromHome #WorkFromAnywhere #HybridWork

Have the chickens come home to roost? Years ago, before COVID, a friend was leaving his job and said he would only take full-time remote roles; he wanted the flexibility. I warned him, "Be careful what you wish for." Labor, like any other good or service, is driven by ROI. Companies, as consumers, are looking for the best return on their investment. I asked him, "Why would I hire you over an equally skilled person working in a low-cost location that could charge lower rates?" He had no answer. Last month, I talked to an executive at a US software company that was freezing all hiring of software engineers in the US, but they were not freezing them in Central and South America. Why? Because they could hire more skilled, better educated, and experienced developers at a lower rate, allowing them to employ 2 for 1. A much better ROI. Remote work is great for many employees in the US; it is also great for many remote employees in low-cost countries in Central and South America who are equally skilled, equally experienced, and equally driven. The US does not have a monopoly on talent. So, to answer my question, I think the answer is yes. The US job market will change dramatically over the next few years as remote work changes the face and shape of the market for skilled labor. #RemoteWork #GlobalTalent #FutureOfWork #jobsearch
