Women's History Month: In this super election year, how many women will be elected? With more than half of the world voting in elections this year, how will it impact gender parity in politics? Women for Election are hitting the road (and dirt tracks) again....this time in the Northern Territory! Did you know.... at 33% the Territory is the worst of all states and territories when it comes to female representation in local government? However, the NT is in a much better position when it comes to women’s political representation in parliament, with a female Chief Minister and the state’s Legislative Assembly nearing gender parity.  With 5 events scheduled across the Territory, Women for Election continues to focus on lifting diverse representation in our Parliaments and council chambers and broadening the cultural diversity of candidates running for public office. Building a strong pipeline of diverse female candidates is critically important ahead of this year’s Northern Territory election, as well as for future election cycles in the Territory. “The new Parliament will also see a series of firsts - record numbers of women MPs and those from an ethnic-minority background, as well as the first member born in the 21st Century. More women than ever. For the first time in parliamentary history, the proportion of women elected is more than 40%. There are now 264 female MPs - up from 220 in 2019 - nearly half of whom are new to the Commons.
