Women for Election are hitting the road (and dirt tracks) again....this time in the Northern Territory! Did you know.... at 33% the Territory is the worst of all states and territories when it comes to female representation in local government? However, the NT is in a much better position when it comes to women’s political representation in parliament, with a female Chief Minister and the state’s Legislative Assembly nearing gender parity. With 5 events scheduled across the Territory, Women for Election continues to focus on lifting diverse representation in our Parliaments and council chambers and broadening the cultural diversity of candidates running for public office. Building a strong pipeline of diverse female candidates is critically important ahead of this year’s Northern Territory election, as well as for future election cycles in the Territory. So, if you’re a woman in the #NorthernTerritory who is interested in understanding more about politics, running for public office one day, or supporting another woman to run, we'd love to see you at one of our workshops! Help us make women's voices heard ahead of the General Election 📢 Ask your local candidates to take action for women's equality if elected on 4th July. Men remain systematically over-represented at all levels of politics. We know that greater diversity at all levels of politics & public life in Scotland enriches policy decisions & improves democracy, benefitting us all. We're asking candidates to support women’s equal representation in politics by: 1️⃣ Making political parties publish candidate diversity data 2️⃣ Changing the law to allow for gender quotas at elections Email your candidates using our website & head to our blog now to find out more about why we need action on quotas & better intersectional data collection about our candidates: https://lnkd.in/ecFfUEJf #GE2024 #SheVotes24 #WomensRights #ScottishPolitics #WhatsInItForWomen

We've made strides towards political equality, with women now voting and leading in many countries, a huge leap from a century ago. Yet, the journey to full equality is far from over. Some nations still restrict voting rights, and women remain underrepresented in leadership roles and legislatures. True equality means more than just political participation; it encompasses civil liberties and genuine political power for women. Let's keep pushing for change and build systems where women have equal political rights. “The new Parliament will also see a series of firsts - record numbers of women MPs and those from an ethnic-minority background, as well as the first member born in the 21st Century. More women than ever. For the first time in parliamentary history, the proportion of women elected is more than 40%. There are now 264 female MPs - up from 220 in 2019 - nearly half of whom are new to the Commons. The bulk of these new women MPs are Labour (93), followed by the Liberal Democrats (22).” #RepresentationMatters https://lnkd.in/emsC3Bbe
