📍✈️ Dallas, TX I was fortunate to spend a few days last week with the newest Merchant Consultant teammates to join Bank of America Merchant Services. I was reminded of my start 12 years ago, nearly to the very month and all of those who contributed to my onboarding experience. Merchant services is an incredibly complex business. The opportunity to impart knowledge with patience, experience and encouragement is integral to providing a launch into the payment processing space that delivers for our clients and partners. While making my way to Texas I dove into my new book by Jon Gordon, titled The Power of Postive Leadership. A particular passage caught my attention - “Rookies aren’t tainted by rejection, negative assumptions, or past experiences. They bring an idealism, optimism, and passion to their work. They don’t focus on what everyone says is impossible. Instead, with wide eyes they believe anything is possible. Rookies put their head down, work hard, stay positive, live fearlessly, and are naive enough to be successful. Rookies don’t have experience. They don’t know about the way things were. They have no knowledge of the good ole days. Instead, rookies create their good ole days right now…Mentor the rookies because, for all their effort and energy, they do make mistakes. And yet, let them teach you how to see the world through their eyes. Think like a rookie, forget the past, and create your good ole day right now.” Rookies re-energize us. If we spend time feeding the root, we will yield the desired fruit — and we all grow and benefit. Cheers to the rookies!
