Family Supportive Housing incorporated in 1986 with a mission to help homeless single- and two-parent families remain intact while addressing their needs for food, shelter, employment and education. They provide temporary housing and targeted support to guide families from crisis to self-sufficiency. Their supportive services include intensive case management, medical resources and referrals, housing search support, life skills workshops for parents, and opportunities for children to play and learn in their Homework Enrichment Program and Voyager Child Development Center. SALTO Systems and Swoz Consulting made over 100 meals that were bagged to be given to the homeless. We all agreed that we felt like THIS moment was such a blessing to help others. It does not have to fit in a box. In fact, your dream will take several twists and turns… and that’s normal! :) Your dream is the WHAT. Keep doing the work and the HOW will unfold. Here are a few stories to inspire you from our neck of the woods. Shasta Mutual Aid distributes resources on a no-questions-asked basis. They are all volunteers who are committed to showing up for their community every Saturday at a park in Redding. We have a new anti-racist children’s book collection in the library. A passionate individual coordinated and crowd-funded the endeavour and now the community has a fantastic opportunity for children, teens and adults to learn to view the world in healthier ways. Our new Children’s Legacy Center is a collaboration between law enforcement, the medical community, child welfare services and other child advocates. It was created to, among other things, protect children from being re-traumatized by the lengthy process that follows reporting abuse. Our community can now better serve the needs of this vulnerable population because a group of passionate professionals dared to create and pursue a bold vision for change. #activism #nonprofit #socent #antiracism

🚨 Disabled people in the UK are facing hunger because their income from work, social security, or both, is not enough to cover the essentials. It’s a shocking situation that’s being driven by inaccessible application processes for support, long wait times for correct decisions and payments, and low levels of disability benefits. Many disabled people also face extra costs as they need to keep their homes warm and run equipment to help manage their health condition. Our social security system should make sure these costs are covered. But right now, it’s falling short. This isn’t right. The new guide shows how people across different sectors are stepping up to promote caregiving strategies, shift societal attitudes, create public-private partnerships and drive change.
