Positive impact on the St. Louis northside continues to rise. Yes, losing trees is valuable and no question of concern, however, revitalizing Normandy's long distressed and deprived community as a result is pretty nice and very welcomed. The narrative is changing with big thanks to Clayco, University of Missouri-Saint Louis, & USDA setting the table with home bases in Normandy. Let's keep growing.#estateofmind #investinstlouis #stlnext

Director at CEAD Architects | Architect & Urban Designer with a focus on sustainable design, housing and community projects
Great to see the first, newly opened section of the coastal cycleway opened. Living here, it makes such a difference to give kids a safe place to cycle as well as avoiding conflicts between cycles and cars and pedestrians on busy days. Some good lessons learned as well. Funding should be longer term, rather than Councils round the country having to compete for short-term pots of money. This allows more time for consultation and a locally-focused approach to deciding what enhancements go in where. With the right Gov support in place, Councils and locals can get the right infrastructure in place to suit local support and their community.

Miami-Dade TPO’s Enhancing SRTS along the South Dade Trail Feasibility Study is now available. This study examined the need for improved bicycle and pedestrian access to public schools in South Miami-Dade along the South Dade Trail and assessed the current Safe Routes to School (SRTS) program’s capacity to meet these needs. The SRTS program is a funded program aimed at making walking and biking to and from school safe, practical, and enjoyable. The South Dade Trail, spanning from Dadeland to Florida City, connects numerous municipalities which represent some of the fastest growing communities in Miami-Dade County. The study identified key opportunities for improvement and proposed enhancements along the trail in three phases: Short-Term (3-5 years), Mid-Term (5-7 years), and Long-Term (10+ years). Our Who I Am Foundation volunteers in #Phoenix will be doing another Family Hike and Trail Clean-Up (PHX)! SATURDAY MORNING (FEBRUARY 3RD) we will be cleaning up the Holbert Trailhead on South Mountain in South Phoenix! Difficulty: Difficult Access: Start at the Park Main Entranced. Take the first left on to Phoenix South Mountain Park. From this road, proceed to Holbert Trailhead to continue onto Holbert Trail. This trail offers a steady climb to the upper areas of South Mountain Park. Hike the extension trail that leads to Dobbins Lookout and be rewarded with a magnificent view of the valley below. The Holbert Trail also provides a route to connect with the National Trail just east of the T.V. Towers and west of Buena Vista Lookout. Distance: 2.5 mi Elevation Change: 1,100 ft. Hiking is an excellent low-impact workout, and is an outdoor activity delivering benefits beyond scenic and fun. Below are five reasons to hike with your kids: 1. Exercise. 2. Build self-confidence 3. Exposure to wildlife 4. Practice “Leave no trace” A great opportunity to talk about why we do not leave our trash in the park, and what happens to the litter that is left behind. 5. Unplug together We all know that kids spend a lot of time using digital media, and it is true for adults as well. Heading out for a family hike is a great way to take a break from your devices and connect with each other and the outdoors for a while instead. Make sure you dress appropriately!! Over $6.5 million has been awarded to 21 local governments to support the delivery of priority bike riding routes and walking network planning over the next two years. This funding – through Cycle Network Local Government Grants and Walking Local Government Grants programs – will go towards 31 new bike riding projects and 16 new walking projects, including shared paths, crossings as well as planning. The projects will plan and deliver key active transport links such as bike routes and prepare walking network plans around key destinations like schools, public transport and town centres from the Gold Coast to Torres Shire in far north Queensland. The $6.5 million local government grant investment builds on the $12.45 million already committed to projects underway with local governments. The State Government has awarded $144 million to local governments since 2015, including $128 million for construction projects to support delivery of 201 kilometres of local government active transport network. Cycle Network Local Government Grants and Walking Local Government Grants projects are generally funded on a matched 50:50 basis with local governments. https://lnkd.in/gszEMe6R https://lnkd.in/gyt9t5i9
