We’ve heard the calls from our community for greater climate action, and for a more equitable and just society. 💚 After extensive community consultation, we’re proud to present our new Climate Emergency Plan 2024-2030, building on our last plan with scaled up ambition and a focus on supporting communities most at risk from climate impacts. Our new plan focuses on 7 key areas: ✅ Embedding climate action in everything we do ✅ Prioritising support for those most at risk from climate impacts ✅ Increasing advocacy for stronger climate action ✅ Achieving net zero carbon emissions in our city by 2035 ✅ Partnering with Traditional Owners Caring for Country to improve biodiversity and connect community with nature ✅ Ensuring homes, buildings, public spaces and infrastructure are climate resilient ✅ Transitioning to a circular economy Check out the highlights and read the plan at: https://bit.ly/3Lj6c3i #TakeClimateAction

For more than three years, Tamarack’s Community Climate Transitions (CCT) network has been supporting community-led climate action that builds more just and equitable futures. Through our work with municipalities, community organizations, resident-led groups, and others forming cross-sector coalitions, we have learned a lot about what it takes to address the climate crisis in a collaborative way that ensures no one is left behind. We’re excited to launch 10: A Guide for Advancing Climate Equity Through Place-Based Collaboration, which brings together two principles of CCT’s work with 70+ members since 2021: climate action is incomplete without addressing the inequities of the climate crisis in our communities, and place-based partnerships are a natural fit for advancing climate equity. The guide includes: ❓Questions to reflect upon to assess how ready you are to advance climate equity through place-based collaboration in your community 💭 Ideas for how to take local climate action in an equitable, collaborative way 🌇 Stories of communities across Turtle Island that serve as inspiration for your work and much more. The urgency to address climate crisis, carbon emissions, and sustainable environmental practices has never been greater. It's a wake-up call for us to invest in climate resilience, realize a robust transition to a global green economy and consolidate strategies for financing it; while enhancing community preparedness. How can we, as a community of professionals, innovators, and policymakers, work together to accelerate mitigation of the growing crisis of climate change? The graph clearly shows a significant rise in emissions for 2024 (red line) compared to the average from 2003-2023 (grey line). Alberta, British Columbia, and the Northwest Territories are some of the regions contributing to these staggering numbers. #ClimateChange #WildfireSeason #greentransition #Sustainability #ClimateAction #Canada #EnvironmentalImpact

BSR’s Climate Change team share ten principles to guide business in co-creating climate justice interventions with affected communities. Business actions aligned with these principles can better forge relationships with affected communities, build trust, and make collective progress toward climate justice. By incorporating a co-creation process, business leaders can center communities most affected by climate change in ongoing discussions as they experience the injustice firsthand and can identify solutions that best fit their needs. As we face the realities of climate change, the importance of integrating Anti-Racism, Equity and Inclusion, and Reconciliation (AREI+R) in environmental initiatives has never been more critical. Climate change impacts everyone, but not equally. Vulnerable and marginalized communities often bear the brunt of environmental degradation and climate-related disasters. By integrating AREI+R principles in the Green Municipal Fund’s initiatives, we are not just addressing environmental challenges; we are also ensuring that the solutions are inclusive and equitable. This approach helps us create more resilient and sustainable municipalities that can withstand the challenges posed by climate change. Join us on January 25 from 1 to 2 pm E.T. to learn how we can all contribute to this vital mission. Register today: https://lnkd.in/ggbKKPri

The @Clark County Department of Environment and Sustainability is putting the "action" into climate action plan - and they're kicking it into high gear. When we helped the County develop the #AllInClarkCounty Community Sustainability and Climate Action Plan that passed in 2023, we identified three key actions that would transform sustainability and resilience in Southern Nevada in coming years. Now, the County is working to implement those three steps, and bringing their community into the process.
