More than 20 years ago, the Merri Creek Labyrinth was created by local community members as a contemplative and peaceful place to connect with nature. 🌱🌳 With support from our Annual Grants program, the volunteer-run group have been able to help grow and sustain the Labyrinth through their restoration project. Over 40 people attended the most recent Community Planting Day, planting native plants and shrubs in the area with supervision from bushland restoration experts Felix Botanica. The Friends of the Merri Creek Labyrinth restoration project doesn’t just enhance our natural environment and support biodiversity, but also fosters community bonds, preserves local heritage and strengthens our connection to nature and wellbeing. 💰 Do you need funding for a local project, initiative, or event? Applications for our 2025 Annual Grants are closing soon! Apply by Wednesday 31 July at: https://lnkd.in/guUQv4nJ

The feedback from my fall experiment of offering free habitat workshops was so positive I’ve decided to host seasonal habitat workshops this year to share actionable ways to create a more ecologically sustainably landscape - with the focus on the function of our yards as a wildlife habitat. The size of the workshops is intentionally limited to make them more interactive and encourage authentic connections. I’ve worked hard to offer hands-on and practical ideas geared towards anyone who is at the beginning of the process of restoring habitat where they live. I’m maintaining the low-key nature of the workshops by reaching out through my networks to folks who are open to making their yards more wildlife friendly. Feel free to share this information with anyone who you think "gets it" and might benefit. The Winter Habitat Yard Workshop is on Sunday, February 25 from 12:00-2:00pm. Before reserving a spot by e-mailing [email protected], please read the blog post here (https://lnkd.in/dbps6NzX) plus the one I wrote last fall (https://lnkd.in/g3H9z_ij) detailing the reasons for the workshop and what to expect. Spring and summer dates are in the works! The workshops are for adults, but children of all ages are welcome – after all it’s their future we’re all trying to save! Be on the lookout for a special family workshop this summer. * I'm keeping the workshops free. My website is being updated and will have a donate button now that Nurture Native Nature is a non-profit organization. This will help offset the cost of offering free educational community outreach programs and activities throughout the year. #nativeplants #naturelovers #habitatyard #coexistwithnature #nurturenativenature

Here at Plant With Purpose, sometimes we do things the hard way... When it comes to land restoration, we could just plant trees—tons and tons of trees and then talk about it. We might be able to impress some people with our numbers ... but we want to do more than that. Instead, we choose the hard work of rigorous monitoring and evaluation, making sure we have the right trees, in the right place, planted by the right people, through Community Designed Restoration. 🌱🌍 Learn how: https://loom.ly/RvFQHQ0

Mark your calenders for Friday May 3 at the Annapolis Unitarian Universalist Church in Annapolis, 333 Dubois Rd, Annapolis 21401. Doors open 5:30pm, meeting will be 6-8pm. During this meeting: - SRA will give a brief presentation about the Severn River Action Plan and describe how we arrived at Weems Creek being the #1 priority for restoration. - Center for Watershed Protection will give a brief overview of the potential restoration projects in the Weems Creek watersheds that have been identified and vetted thus far. - We will be looking for feedback and input from community members. 🌄 The federal government recently announced plans to expand the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument. Advocacy from Indigenous community leaders, community activists, and environmentalists across Southern California led to this landmark decision to preserve public land and provide critical open space and equitable access to nature. 🚵♀️Expanding the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument will promote equitable access to nature, safeguard a vital water source for Los Angeles County, tackle climate and biodiversity challenges, support national 30x30 goals, and honor the landscape’s culture and historical significance. 🙌 Alongside the Monument’s expansion, over $1 million in corporate, philanthropic, and state government support to ensure equitable access and recreation within the Monument was announced, a commitment that includes support from EGA member, Resources Legacy Fund. New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced budget cuts that, if enacted, will essentially wipe out #communitycomposting infrastructure in #NYC, as well as threaten widely used #foodwaste drop-off sites operated by GrowNYC at Greenmarkets throughout the city. “NYC has long been a leader not only in #composting, but community composting … that keeps the composting process and #compost use local, while offering community engagement and education opportunities,” according to Institute for Local Self-Reliance. ILSR’s 2022 Community Composter Census identified New York as home to the largest concentration of community composters in the U.S.—a thriving ecosystem of local businesses, environmental nonprofits, and neighborhood gardens. #climate

📖 Landcare Tasmania is thrilled to launch a new research report for the Seed Resilience Project. With help from Ruth Mollison, we conducted research and a community survey to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and solutions related to native seed supply in Tasmania. The State of Tasmania Seed Report (2024), contains information on the national native seed sector, a summary of the issues in Tasmania, examples of seedbanks from other states and outlines how to improve the seed supply in Tasmania. This project aims to look at different ways restoration seed banks can be established and create a network of people who are involved and skilled in the collection, storage and distribution of native seed to meet the demand of revegetation projects in Tasmania. 🌱 Read the report here: https://lnkd.in/gsFx-vzi The Seed Resilience Project is part of Landcare Tasmania's Landscape Restoration and Community Outreach Programs, funded by the State Government's Landcare Action Grants. #seed #propagation #revegetation #tasmania #research

Join us in celebrating our beautiful environment! 🌱🌏 Today, we aim to raise awareness about the environment and how to protect our planet for the years to come. This years theme theme presents itself as #GenerationRestoration. We cannot turn back time, but we can grow forests, revive water sources, and bring back soils. We are the generation that can make peace with land. We're contributing through our Plant A Tree program, where every $5 donated plants a native tree. Additionally, our Carbon Farming Program focuses on educating Australians about carbon farming, supporting the development and implementation of carbon-related projects, and building a network of like-minded individuals across the state. After all, like our Elders say: 'If you look after Country, Country will look after you'. Discover how you can be part of this restoration effort by joining us today. https://lnkd.in/gY7g-ej7
