Voters across England and Wales have head to the polls today to cast their votes in the Local Elections, in what could be the largest test of electoral opinion before the next General Election. Over 2,600 seats across 107 of England’s councils are up for grabs, with the Conservatives and Labour both defending just under 1,000 each. Londoners are voting for their next Mayor and the London Assembly, while Mayoral Elections are also taking place in a further 10 regions across the country. With a flurry of results set to come in over the next few days, we've broken down some of the key things to look out for 👇 #LocalElections2024

The second round of voting in the French legislative elections takes place tonight (Sunday 7 July in France). Voting ends at 6:00pm in towns and small cities and at 8:00pm in big cities. At 8:00pm local time (which is 6:00am tomorrow morning here in New Zealand) pollsters will issue initial projections based on the early results from polling stations that closed earlier in the day. Historically, these have been fairly reliable. A week ago, Marine Le Pen’s National Rally came first, although we've seen some major moves from other parties since then which could stop them winning a majority in the second round. Over 200 candidates from the left-wing alliance and President Emmanuel Macron’s centrist group have dropped out of the run-offs, which means there'll be more one-on-one races and less splitting of votes. That'll make it difficult for the National Rally to achieve an overall majority, which means the most likely scenario is a hung parliament.

What is a mayoral election? There are two types of mayoral elections. Mayors can be elected by the voters in a local government area (known as “popularly elected” mayors). These mayors serve a four-year term. Alternatively, once the new councillors for a local government area are elected, they then vote to elect one of the councillors as mayor for a two-year term. At the end of the two-year term the councillors elect a new mayor for the following two years. For more information: http://spr.ly/6047w1xnh

Hi everyone. I just did an interview after the recent local elections. Please remember the importance of voting. If you have a good, local MP, please go out and vote for them. Less than 100,000 people came out to vote for my local PCC in the recent elections and he lost his seat. Now is the time to keep good people in office and remove the less good ones. Vote wisely and do not put unqualified people into office. Our vote matters. Our voice matters. Use it wisely. Vote for competence in your local constituency. And find the right person that can deliver that - regardless of the party.

GESGB Council Elections 2024: ❗ Just a reminder that the Council Election deadline is just over a week away, voting closes at 1700 on Friday 17th November 2023. If you have not already done so, please use one of the following links to cast your vote. I shall be standing for another term as Treasurer, a role which requires patience, attention to detail and a good deal of financial knowledge. Plus the flexibility to spend the hours required to be a fully immersed board member. It was again a pleasure to report our financials in this weeks AGM, the second year in a row where we have posted positive numbers. We have been implementing and scheduling some new measures and systems, and as these come through to full use, it would be beneficial to stay in post and see these new developments through to full implementation. My focus going forward is to build on the stability, expand on the energy transition and provide the members with the ever increasing in person (and online) events, training and networking opportunities. #HTNumberTheory | Is Congress’s political predicament tactical? The Congress, in the 2024 elections, will contest the lowest number of parliamentary constituencies (PCs) it has ever contested in a national election. Will this electoral tactic work for the Congress? #ElectionsWithHT #LokSabhaElections https://lnkd.in/gWQysXft

The mix of local government structures across England paints a complicated and varied picture. As a result it can be challenging to work out which #council areas will be going to the polls, how many members are contesting their seats and where mayoral elections are actually being held! At Stephenson-Mohl Group this is something we need to be on top of and as we approach May’s #localelections we thought we’d share with you this handy document we pulled together that sets out all of the above and more. It is a comprehensive guide to every local council in England holding elections this May. It includes all of the contests in Metropolitan, Unitary and District Council areas and sets out how many councillors from each authority area will be up for election this time around. For good measure we have also included Combined & Single Authority #Mayoral Elections.
