Coming out of the Campus Compact 24 Conference last week, transitioning to #NationalWeekofConversation and #EarthMonth - takeaways, connections, motivations are abundant. I'm inspired by the humility, vulnerability, and capacity for deep collaboration expressed through storytelling that centers on trust, partnership, and rewards deeper than risks. Stories are born out of a willingness to share personal reflections, respond to curious questions, and engage in courageous listening. Stories fuel meaningful conversations. Narratives of all kinds (oral, written, visual, on and on) and from a multitude of voices are central to truly understanding our shared AND unique experiences; narratives light our future pathways. Ultimately, the combination of storytelling and conversation can be action oriented, in and of itself, or spur us towards action. I'm motivated by heroes all around, who lead by listening, who lead by sharing, and who lead with curiosity spurring me on to action. With thousands #storiesofservice, and as we near Earth Day tomorrow, I want to re-share Brittany's words (https://lnkd.in/erMkqPxb), an AmeriCorps member who served with Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps. I want to celebrate the more than 14,600 AmeriCorps members and AmeriCorps Seniors volunteers who treated more than 3 million acres of parks and public land and more than 25,000 miles of trails and rivers last year alone. Lastly, I want to offer up the Climate Change Discussion Guide as a resource that may help you express your own WHY, hear the WHYs of others, and support / spur your ACTIONS. Bit.ly/ClimateGuide24 In grateful partnership with BridgeUSA, Service Year Alliance, America's Service Commissions, Campus Compact, American Conservation Coalition and The Corps Network. #DisagreeBetter #BridgingInService

Groundwork is urging organisations to commit to an action plan designed to make them more inclusive and diverse in order to work towards a more inclusive environmental sector - to be a #ForceOfNature. For those of you who may not know, New to Nature aims to provide life-changing experiences for people who might not normally have access to a career in the environmental sector. Young people who are disabled, from an ethnic minority or who are from low-income homes were encouraged to apply for 95 roles in all areas of the nature sector in the last year. The year-long roles, funded with the help of National Lottery Heritage Fund, offered living wages, a range of training, and extra support to ensure that after the year, no one will be just left wondering what to do next. I can only say good things about this programme and when I think of the difference it has made for my life impacted across all 90+ placements, I can only imagine how many lives have been irreversibly changed for the better. I could go on for a long time about the benefits but I will just say that if you'd like to learn more about Force of Nature and how your organisation could benefit, then go to: https://lnkd.in/eRViTccu
The #ForceOfNature Campaign by Groundwork is calling on the environmental sector this #GreenCareersWeek to create more accessible and inclusive pathways into work for young people from all backgrounds. James Webb, Partnerships and Fundraising Lead comments 'I’m very pleased and proud to be part of this campaign. For years we have offered opportunities for young people to learn new skills and undertake training with us but we wanted to take the next step and offer employment. With the help of New to Nature, we were able to do that'. And Nina Stubbington, Grants and Outreach Officer has been with us for over 6 months now! Nina explains 'This opportunity with Cotswolds National Landscape, through New to Nature, has allowed me to follow a career path that I thought would never be accessible for me.' 9/10 employees think that employers should consider the impact their business has on nature when making decisions. Sadly most people admit they don’t know where to start… #NaturesWorkforce created by WWF, the RSPB and the National Trust, is a step-by-step guide to help you to kick-start the conversation about nature where you work. Inspired by the #PeoplesPlanforNature and the #SaveOurWildIslesBusiness films, find out how one conversation can get the ball rolling… https://lnkd.in/eEfyyHi4

As we journey onward towards the sunset years of life, contemplating our progress with a steadfast commitment to moving forward, ( yes! it's forward always) we introspect about our contributions to the world. Have we positively influenced this world? Are there ways we could have bettered ourselves for the benefit of future generations? Could we have embraced more humility and set aside our ego? These questions arise as we take a moment to reflect on our lives (this picture in a public area made me think)—the challenges, the pursuits, our relationships, professions, and choices. We ponder our contributions to the community and society, prompting the question: Are we leaving enough?

One overlooked reality of climate change is the imperative to prepare and reskill workers to meet employers' green skills demands. Join my mainstage session at #JFFHorizons for a dynamic panel that will engage experts -- including Wawa Gatheru of Black Girl Environmentalist, Shyla Raghav of TIME and Michael Smith of AmeriCorps -- who will share their views and perspectives on this topic. We believe that everyone can benefit from job training, inclusive policies and the financial supports necessary to cultivate green talent, especially popualtions that have historically been left behind in the growing green economy and the opportunities it affords to help close income and wealth gaps.
