In reality, the FAFSA delay hurts schools' enrollment management right now more than students. Aid processing delays will likely mean a longer window to accept admissions offers and that will have schools in utter panic this summer when applicants who see them as safety schools or 2nd or 3rd choices don't enroll and leave them scrambling to fill slots. #education #college #FAFSA #financialaid #policy #government #highered #admissions

🚨 23% of all MPs now in the House of Commons were privately educated, falling from 29% in 2019. 88% of Brits attended state comprehensive schools, meaning the new House of Commons is far more representative of the population. However, only 7% of the population are privately educated, meaning those who attend private schools are still overrepresented in every main party. Our analysis found that 46% of Conservative MPs and 15% of Labour MPs attended private schools, compared to 41% and 14% respectively in 2019. 30% of Lib Dem MPs attended private schools, which is unchanged from 2019. Government funding for Catholic and Independent schools has increased much more than for public schools since 2009. Government funding has enabled private schools to have a much higher income per student than public schools and to provide more teaching and material resources per student than in public schools. It is extraordinary, but shameful, that Australia’s school funding system so favours the privilege over the under-privileged. Brighton council are about to make history and become the first council in the UK to prioritise children on free school meals for school admissions. This is largely down to the work of the local group Class Divide, who have challenged the lack of choice for parents as to which schools their children attend. The Department for Education’s own research in 2017 shows that house prices are 8% higher in areas around the best-performing primary schools, contributing to inequality and unfairness in the UK education system. This problem has long been the target of many governments. Is this the diversity of opportunity that policymakers intended?
