Between the buzz of Coachella's weekends, it's crucial to take a moment to recognize the influence of this event beyond the viral moments, mainly the impact on its local community. Last year, during my Master's, I delved into the nuances of this iconic festival with my research project: 'Income Disparity at Coachella Festival: Examining the Contrast in Wealth during the Festival Period'. While my study illuminated the evident economic advantages of Coachella for the Indio community, including the boost of tourism and the increased sales for local vendors during those 2 weeks, it was equally important for me to shine a light on a crucial aspect often overlooked - the local farmworkers and surrounding low-income communities, whose stories often remain untold amidst the festival's social media glamour. As Coachella continues to shape music culture and influence younger generations, it has the power to highlight the region's dynamics, complexities and difficulties. Let's continue the conversation involving Coachella during its second weekend, not just for the festival-goers, but for the communities that surround it. The crux of the article gets to the heart of the lack of representation from specific groups. “It is rare to see a Black or Brown-owned company sponsoring or displaying their merch/educational resources at a conference” For many individuals and/or SME’s (Black owned or not) fees to purchase a booth or stand, plus the time commitment to travel to a conference, means that those who have a presence at conferences often come from one group or demographic. So what can you do? Calling all Eventprofs, can I address a misconception…? Why do many event organisers assume choirs are cheap to book? As the musical director of a gospel choir, I've been tagged in numerous 'recommendation' posts seeking choirs for events, only to be met with shock when I mention our fee. It's often followed by remarks like, "Can't you do it for £100-£200?" Yet, there's usually no hesitation in budgeting appropriately for musicians in a band….? 🤷🏽♀️ While community choirs may accept minimal fees (you’ll always find groups to do it cheaper, and maybe this is where the problem stems from), this shouldn't devalue professional singers. If there's a budget for a band, there should be one for pro choirs too. We invest time and effort in rehearsals for your event, so it’s only fair. THE ESSENCE Welcome to my new exhibition! Vernissage tomorrow 16-22 with live music at 19:00 (Vivve Bollmark folk music) at Kaffe Kid. We are quick to judge others. At one glance we have built an opinion. Is the person a friend or foe? Do we feel commonality with them or are they a stranger we should be cautious of? Are we intrigued and curious or do we get a negative vibe? We tend to divide people into two categories, usually without any deeper reflection, into a we and a them. Behind our screens and keyboards, our thoughts quickly filter into the world, though they haven’t had time for reflection. If you don’t agree with me, if you aren’t like me, then you must be against me? I think? When our outer shell is peeled off, we stand naked. Now we are all quite similar, at the same time, so gloriously different. Young and old, untouched and scarred, dark and light, smooth and hairy. Some of us have had relatively easy lives and others have experienced horrific things. Some vote to the right, others vote to the left. Some believe in a higher deity, others choose not to believe in any. In the end, we are Just People. The Essence of Just People is about acceptance and everyone’s equal worth. Despite there being many forces that are spreading the idea that certain people have a lesser value than others, we have more characteristics that connect us, than that differ between us. Perhaps it is easier to feel compassion and empathy for others when they are vulnerable and brave, without clothing. If we leave our preconceived notions behind us and can accept each other just as we are, I wonder how the world could change? JENNIE ANDERSSON

Strategic Concert Planning:   Concerts became our compass, infusing rehearsals with purpose and enthusiasm, especially during the challenges of the pandemic. 2.
