After news this week about Sir Jim Ratcliffe wanting to push ahead with a new stadium for Manchester United, which may result in a stadium naming rights partner, I wanted to have a look into this asset in Europe. Luckily, I have my SportsPro column to do just that! This month, I have a look at why the asset has been so popular in North America (particularly with Financial Services) but has had more muted success in Europe, and how to actually make it work this side of the pond https://lnkd.in/eszDuGE4

Momentus Public Relations Commentary Balancing Opportunities and Challenges: Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim's Infrastructure Proposals Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim's proposals to address the city's infrastructure deficit and generate revenue through naming rights present both opportunities and challenges. It's noteworthy that many cities globally are grappling with similar issues, highlighting the importance of innovative solutions. However, while seeking private investment for public assets can be beneficial, there's a need for caution. Sim's suggestion to generate $100 million through naming rights raises concerns about potential commercialisation of public spaces and the impact on community identity. Moreover, relying solely on wealthy individuals and organisations for funding may not be sustainable or equitable in the long term. Instead, a balanced approach involving diverse sources of revenue and community input is essential. Additionally, addressing Vancouver's infrastructure deficit requires more than just financial solutions. Streamlining bureaucratic processes, focusing on essential services, and prioritising community needs over political agendas are crucial steps. By adopting a strategic and collaborative approach, cities like Vancouver can effectively tackle financial challenges while safeguarding public trust and well-being. However, achieving this requires responsibility from all of us at the ballot box to ensure that the candidates we choose possess the intellectual capability to govern and are also adept at managing a household budget. Which slam dunk is bigger: Kevin Durant's on the court or the Olympic Committee's in court? Recently the U.S. Olympic Committee sued Prime Hydration, founded by YouTube stars Logan Paul and KSI, for allegedly violating its trademark rights with an Olympic-themed ad campaign featuring Team USA basketball player Kevin Durant using the words "Olympic" and "Team USA" confusing consumers thinking that the committee endorsed the brand. Despite a cease-and-desist, Prime continued, leading to the lawsuit. Yikes, this is a trademark showdown in the court! This is a great reminder that protecting your trademark avoids consumer confusion, maintains brand integrity, and prevents costly legal issues. Your trademark is your brand's identity—guard it like a gold medal! #metispartners #intellectualproperty #trademark
