Restaurant owners, let's discuss the "third place" – a concept introduced by sociologist Ray Oldenburg in 1977. Beyond the home and workplace, the third place is where people gather for cherished, informal, and voluntary social interactions. Why is this important for your restaurant? Think of your space as an urban living room, a haven where friends, neighbors, co-workers, and even strangers come together. It's where people enjoy each other's company, exchange ideas, share news, and relax in a welcoming atmosphere. Oldenburg emphasized that these places are essential for counterbalancing the irritations of modern life. They provide human association that is both pleasurable and gratifying due to the presence of others. This is your opportunity to create a unique experience for your customers – a place they look forward to visiting, not just for the food but for the community and connection. Throughout history, such gathering spots have shaped both individuals and communities. Making your restaurant a vibrant third place fosters connections, builds loyalty, and enhances the local community. Embrace the magic of the third place and transform your restaurant into a beloved destination.

Does your restaurant have soul? One thing I teach my clients is that owning a restaurant is about creating an experience that touches you emotionally (and how to do that) My recent visit to a client in Malta was wonderful. The heart and soul of the ownership was already in every corner. They just needed to bring that out even more. Here's 5 things that set soulful restaurants apart: 1. Ownership Presence 2. Invested, passionate and engaged staff 3. A room that tells a story 4. Guests and the community are recognised as family 5. Everything is considered. Remember, a restaurant with soul is a place that becomes an institution. That's your aim as a restaurateur How do you think about soul at your restaurant? Drop your thoughts below!

Have you ever experienced this? Your friend group wants to get together. Ideally, meeting at a restaurant would be the easiest option, right? And it is, for everyone except the poor soul (you) that volunteers to organize it. You start making a list of possible options. You remembered that your favorite nearby restaurant and bar has a couple party rooms, but they don't open until 3 PM. You think the downtown Mexican Cantina has an upstairs area that would be perfect. They opened at 11:30 but they never answer their phone. Does this happen to you? What would you say is your biggest frustration when it comes to organizing a group outing? Is it: * Finding a restaurant that is centrally located for everyone, who would be willing to tie up (I mean reserve) one or two tables for your group? * Figuring out who is interested in coming? * Dealing with all of the changes in headcount and answering questions as to if there is room to bring a friend? * Trying to coordinate all of these changes with the restaurant? At EnRoute™ we are working on making it easier to put all of this together for the organizer, and the restaurants that would love to host them. If you had magic button for coordinating a group outing, what would that button do? #innovation #restauranttech #restauranttechnology #customerflow #groupcoordination #gettogether #dinnerwithfriends
