Neighborhood Sports Play is the Last Affordable Youth Sports Option The belief that youth recreational sports is the last affordable sport option is an urban myth since the average cost for 3 months of youth recreational sports costs $300-$400 per player for 3 months of play (compare that cost to the average monthly food budget for a family of 4 in California is just under $300) As parents we need to ask ourselves, why do we need coaches, uniforms, referees or umpires, parents and sport field rentals for our kids to play a sport that most of us played in our neighborhoods with our friends until about 2 decades ago --and while most of us believe that neighborhood play option is gone-how can we reintroduce that play culture back into our neighborhoods.

The Benefits of Outdoor Play: Why It Matters. Outdoor play is beneficial for children beyond the physical activity it provides. It helps them socialize, understand their bodies better, engage in imaginative play and enjoy the outdoors. https://ow.ly/Pihw50S8wWZ

Every weekend we get to set up sports class, so that our talented coaches can teach your children sports skills and so much more. What started as a solution to our own family’s desire for a kid’s sports program that was… 🌟 supportive 🌟 designed for beginners 🌟 non-competitive 🌟 judgement free 🌟 welcoming for all people 🌟 accessible and (most importantly) 🌟 fun! …has grown into a movement. A movement of parents who want to give their kids the world. A movement of coaches who want kids to be authentically themselves in enrichment programs. A movement of recreation departments, schools, parent organizations, sports leagues, youth sports businesses, nonprofits, government agencies, and more who want inclusive and equitable communities. A movement of kids who are changing our world with kindness, self awareness, understanding the importance of diversity, and the power of working as a team. Tag a friend or organization in the comments who should know about this movement that we are leading together 🙌🏽

🏀🏠 Bringing the Madness to Homeowners Associations! 🏠🏀 As March Madness sweeps the nation with its exhilarating basketball tournaments, it's time for Homeowners Associations (HOAs) to join in on the excitement! 🎉 Much like the teams competing for victory on the court, HOAs strive to foster a sense of community and collaboration among residents. Just as coaches strategically plan each play, HOA boards carefully navigate through decisions to enhance the quality of life within their neighborhoods. Here's how HOAs and March Madness share common ground: 1️⃣ Team Spirit: Just as basketball teams rally around their colors and mascots, HOAs can cultivate a strong sense of community pride. Encouraging residents to display team flags or host themed events can foster camaraderie and unity. 2️⃣ Fair Play: March Madness emphasizes fair competition and sportsmanship. Similarly, HOAs uphold rules and regulations to ensure fairness and equity among homeowners, creating a harmonious living environment for all. 3️⃣ Strategic Planning: In both realms, success often hinges on strategic planning and effective communication. Whether it's mapping out a winning game plan or orchestrating community initiatives, proactive leadership is key. 4️⃣ Celebrating Wins: Just as basketball fans celebrate every buzzer-beater, HOAs can recognize and celebrate the achievements of their community members. From beautification projects to volunteer efforts, acknowledging contributions fosters a culture of appreciation and encouragement. This March, let's channel the energy of March Madness into our neighborhoods! 🎊 Whether you're cheering on your favorite team or strengthening your community bonds, let's make this month a slam dunk for HOAs everywhere! 🏆🏡 #MarchMadness #CommunityUnity #HOALeadership #hoamanagement

State of Play Colorado: Aspen to Parachute via: The Aspen Institute & Aspen Institute Sports & Society Key Takeaways: 🏃♀️ Local youth in the Roaring Fork and Colorado River valleys are slightly less physically active than the national average, with only 22% getting 60 minutes of daily physical activity compared to 24% nationally. Girls and Latino/a children have even lower rates of physical activity. 🚌 Transportation to and from sports and recreational activities is a major challenge, especially for children living far from facilities. Over half of surveyed youth said they would use public transportation from their neighborhood if offered to access more outdoor activities. 🕺 Youth are primarily motivated by friendships and fun to play sports, ranking being with friends (52%) and having fun (51%) as the top reasons, while winning games ranked 6th and college athletic scholarships 18th. ⚽ Soccer is by far the most popular sport among Latino/a children, with 42% regularly playing soccer compared to only 19% of White children. This presents an opportunity to use soccer as a tool for social change and youth development in the Latino/a community. 🏔️ There are significant participation gaps in outdoor recreation activities like skiing, rock climbing, and mountain biking between White youth and Latino/a youth, likely due to costs, transportation, equipment, communication barriers, and family priorities. #YouthSports #Sportsbiz #LinkedInSports #Kids #Parents #Community https://lnkd.in/gWEihRjM

Looking at this topic, I think it's important to consider the different perspectives on this critical topic that face Children, Councils and playground owners. While some may advocate for risky play to encourage creativity and exploration, others will argue that safety should always come first to prevent accidents, however what does the balance need to be and how big a risk is considered too unsafe? This will certainly be a very interesting debate and highly valuable to those within the play and playground industry. #Playground #CommunityPlanning #Play #Community #Innovation

Mass-participation running events are open to everyone, but not always accessible to everyone. A One Poll survey* found a third of disabled people felt that sporting events were not set up to cater to them. Four in ten did not feel confident enough to take part. We are determined to change that! Check out our event pages on our website www.whitehead.foundation We are keen to hear from runners and prospective support runners in the Birmingham, Manchester and Bristol areas. Do you know someone with a disability or do you have a disability? It may be a neurodiverse, physical or learning disability, or a sensory impairment. If you or they want to run, we can match you with a Support Runner who will provide you with the support you need on the day, please register your interest here: https://lnkd.in/eMZSJjy2 If you are a runner and would like to enable a disabled person's ambition by supporting a runner through an event, please register your interest here: https://lnkd.in/ewqZ-69z *Reference One Poll survey
