Last October, #Baltimore was one of 31 regions designated as a federal “tech hub” by a Biden administration program designed to spur local economies while boosting the United States’ competitive advantage in emerging technologies. We continue to see innovation ascend in the region - to impact all sectors of business and demographics! One of the more exciting adjacent initiatives, I have seen, has been the focus on renewable energy in leveraging our skyline. According to Executive Director, Kim Coble, the legislation has the potential to reduce the energy burden on thousands of low- to moderate-income (LMI) Maryland households while generating clean and renewable solar power on developed land, such as rooftops and parking canopies in our cities and towns. The facility has launched as part of a £300 million private investment in #UK-based green innovation. #Swedish firm Aira officially opened its new hub in #Trafford, #GreaterManchester, a borough which has already established as an epicentre of #climatetech research and development. The facility will create hundreds of high skilled jobs for residents across the North West of #England. Overall, Aira has committed to hiring 8,000 #cleanenergy experts over the next decade to help meet rising demand for #heatpumps across #Britain. ‘It’s fantastic news that Aira has chosen Greater Manchester as its centre of operations in the North-West. The company has exciting plans to grow in the #UK and the investment in their new base in Trafford will generate many high-quality jobs for people across the city-region,’ said Andy Burnham, Mayor of Greater Manchester. ‘Retrofitting homes and buildings is a critical part of our #netzero journey, both locally and nationally, and so we welcome the contribution of innovative, clean energy technology companies like Aira.’ According to the company’s own research, one-in-three people living in the region were likely to install a heat pump at home when next carrying out renovations, with this level of consumer interest catalysing the decision to open a new HQ in the area. Earlier this year, Aira opened a new site in #Sheffield, having taken over All Seasons Energy in 2023, with this latest development emphasising a commitment to England’s northern cities and towns. ‘The opening of our North-West hub marks a crucial step toward Aira’s ambition to serve one million homes across the UK with clean energy-tech solutions,’ said Marc Clarke, Aira Head of Region, North West England. ‘The North-West region is rich with skilled workers, all the way from the #LakeDistrict to #Stoke, making it a natural fit for our hub location. But it’s clear More Effort should be made to promote the understanding of energy-efficient design principles and emphasize the long-term benefits, such as reduced utility bills and improved indoor comfort. Encouraging the use of Passivhaus standards in new construction projects and promoting energy-efficient retrofits of existing buildings can certainly contribute to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly housing sector. This May, the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) and the New York City Industrial Development Agency (NYCIDA) announced the finalization and closing of the East River Energy Storage Project. The battery storage project will be New York’s largest battery storage power plant. The East River Energy Storage Project will consist of a battery storage capacity of 100 megawatts and is projected to be constructed along the East River on an industrial site in Astoria, Queens. The following announcement to proceed with the battery project is the result of the previously revealed New York City’s Green Economy Action Plan.
