An important decision to be made by the client and / or the project manager very early on to ensure clear direction on matters fire and life safety. Also many times the fire engineer can bring in value engineering by rational Fire Safety Strategies
When should I engage a fire safety engineer into my next project? It is a common misconception that fire safety engineers can only be brought into address Deemed-to-Satisfy (DTS) non-compliances once they have been identified. However, it is more valuable to engage a fire safety engineer early in the project, ideally during the concept stage of DA development. By including a fire safety engineer during the concept stage, potential non-compliance issues can be identified and addressed early, which is more cost-effective and time-efficient than dealing with them later in the project. Our team of fire safety engineers are available to assist and guide you through each stage of the project to ensure it is compliant and completed efficiently and cost-effectively. A question I always like to ask Graduate Fire Engineers - "What is the purpose of fire safety legislation?" In general the response is around protection and controls, which is a fair response. However, the answer I'm looking for is quite simple - to protect life (and reduce injuries caused as a result of fires). Why do I ask this? Because the Graduate Fire Engineers need to fully understand the importance of what we do. We are here to protect people from fire and prevent deaths and injuries. It's as simple as that. The decisions we make and the guidance we give must be based on the sole aim of protecting life. I also love the moment when Graduate Fire Engineer's realise quite how important their new career is and what a difference they can make. #lovefirenengineering #fireengineer #fireengineering #lifesafety

Tip No. 9 for MaP CSCS Card: Fire Prevention and Control Fire prevention and control are critical for construction site safety. As a site engineer, you need to develop and implement a fire safety plan that includes identifying fire hazards, maintaining clear evacuation routes, and ensuring that fire-fighting equipment is readily available and maintained. Conduct regular fire drills and ensure all workers are trained in fire safety procedures. Install and maintain smoke detectors and alarm systems. Keep flammable materials properly stored and handle them with care. Remember, preparation and vigilance are key to preventing fires and ensuring everyone's safety. Technical Director at RED Fire Engineers - Fire Engineer & Expert Witness. All views and opinions are my own and not that of my employer.
One for fire engineers or fire safety engineers everywhere - say you are out and about and meet someone new (at a party or the gym or the pub etc) and they ask you "So what do you do for a living?" - how do you answer this in a concise way? I usually say something like "I'm a fire engineer which means I help architects make buildings safer - from a fire safety point of view. Recently I've been dealing with lots of the combustible cladding issues" There has to be a better explanation of what we do - anyone got one? #fireengineer #firesafetyengineer #engineering
