Today I celebrate the start of my 44th year as as member of The Florida Bar. To honor this day and express my appreciation to a profession that has been very good to me, and my family, I will do a give-away soon to all of my fellow sisters and brothers in the Florida Bar, no matter where you may live. Hint - to keep your membership in good standing you have to meet your CLE requirements, which are pretty heavy and can be very expensive.

Bryan Kohberger Motion to Change Venue: Lessons from the Boston Marathon Bombing Case 📺 #CourtTV
On Friday, I discussed the defense’s motion to change venue in the Brian Kohberger case, drawing parallels to the Boston Marathon bombing trial. Kohberger’s defense argues that due to extensive pretrial publicity and public sentiment, a fair trial is impossible in the current county. This situation brings to mind the Boston Marathon bombing case, where despite similar concerns, the court decided not to move the trial.
In Boston, potential jurors had experienced a citywide lockdown during the manhunt. Despite these challenges, the United Stares Supreme Court upheld the conviction and held that a fair jury could still be selected within the original venue. The question now is whether the same can be said for Kohberger’s case, given the intense media coverage and public scrutiny it has received.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on this important legal issue. Do you think the court should grant the motion to change venue in Kohberger’s case, or is there enough precedent to keep it where it is?
Have a great Labor Day weekend!
