📢We’re echoing a call from the Migrant Rights Network: on the weekend of September 14 and 15, take to the streets to say no to racism and yes to immigrant justice! In December 2021, the federal government promised regularization—permanent resident status for undocumented people—but has fallen short on its promise. Without status, migrants remain: ❌underpaid, ❌exploited, ❌and excluded. Fairness and justice for all in Canada requires regularization and status for all. 🌎Will you be attending an action in your community on September 14th or 15th? Advocate| Bachelor's in Health/Health Care Administration/Management | refugee and human rights activist.
Human rights are not privileges; they are the basic entitlements of every individual, regardless of nationality, ethnicity, gender, or background. As a refugee and human rights advocate, I believe that everyone deserves to live a life free from discrimination, persecution, and inequality. Standing up for human rights means more than speaking out—it requires active efforts to uplift those whose voices often go unheard. It means breaking down barriers and building bridges that connect us in solidarity and mutual respect. Whether you’re advocating for refugee rights, pushing for equal access to education, or promoting freedom of expression, know that every effort counts. Change begins with us—by standing together and creating a world where human rights are upheld, celebrated, and defended. #HumanRights #Advocacy #EqualityForAll #RefugeeRights #SocialJustice

In an election season shaped by xenophobia, Jewish NGOs and over 500 clergy (!!!) signed HIAS' Policy Platform, calling for respect and safety for refugees and asylum seekers. “The message from the Jewish community is clear: Candidates should speak about immigrants with compassion, and with respect for their right to pursue safety through a dignified and humane asylum system. The U.S. has long been a nation of immigrants, where generations of Jewish people have been able to find refuge and to thrive. It is unacceptable — and alarming — to see immigrants today used as a political punching bag.” - Merrill Zack, HIAS Chief Global Community Engagement Officer We're calling for commonsense policies, including: - The repeal of harmful policies that deny the right to asylum - Investment in an effective asylum system that protects the rights of asylum seekers, while also addressing security issues at the border - Expanded legal pathways to entry and residency in the U.S. - A robust annual target number and arrival of resettled refugees through the United States Refugee Admissions Program Thank you to the Union for Reform Judaism, Rabbinical Assembly, National Council of Jewish Women, Jewish Council for Public Affairs, T'ruah: The Rabbinic Call for Human Rights, Reconstructing Judaism, and others for joining us. #election2024 #breakingnews #2024election #refugeeswelcome #refugees #asylumseekers #immigration #jewish #jewishcommunity #southernborder

It's sickening to see the racist and Islamophobic violence across the UK. It's concerning having to question whether to go out, what areas to avoid, checking in with family and friends and even worse for more marginalised communities. As a lawyer, I'm saddened to see that so many immigration firms and law centres are targets for far-right violence. But I'm also so proud of the tireless work these organisations have been doing for years to address the systemic issues that we are seeing in such violent and brutal form. They need our support now more than ever. Below is a list of a list of a few organisations (thanks to Stephen Cockburn, Sabrina de Souza and others for this information.) Feel free to suggest other organisations which I'll add. Organisations Combatting Racism: - Stand Up to Racism UK: They have set up a ‘Stop the Far Right: Emergency Unity Fund’ to organise events and produce materials to combat racism and foster unity. - HOPE not hate UK: Sign their pledge to transform the current climate of pessimism into a movement of hope and community action. - Exit Hate Trust: Provides mentoring support to individuals involved in extremism who want to walk away. - Stop Hate UK: Operates the UK’s only free dedicated 24-hour anti-Hate Crime reporting service. - Runnymede Trust : Work on race equality and civil rights for over 50 years - Citizens UK: Community organising on various social justice issues Organisations Supporting Asylum Seekers and Refugees: - Migrant Voice: A migrant-led organisation developing the skills and confidence of migrants to speak up and advocate for themselves. - British Red Cross: The largest independent provider of services for refugees and asylum seekers in the UK. - Refugee Action: Helps refugees and people seeking asylum rebuild their lives in the UK. - Women for Refugee Women: Supports women who have fled persecution in their home countries. - Refugee Council: Helps over 13,000 men, women and children seeking asylum in the UK each year. Organisations providing legal advice and support to impacted communities: Liberty: leading legal and human rights charity Law Centres Network: supporting the vital work of law centres in providing legal advice and support
