Branch Director, Robert Half Manchester | Finance & Accountancy Recruiter | UK Board Member of RH Women's Employee Networking Group | Inclusive Leadership
'The moment for Britain to choose its future' These were the words from Sunak yesterday as he announced July 4th's election. No coincidence then that it falls on Independence Day. All political parties will need to listen to the British public. Will this provide greater certainty for the UK economy? According to Ipsos, 33% of people say the economy will improve in the next 12 months, 25% think it will stay the same while 37% say it will worsen. The last few years have been volatile to say the least.....it hasn't been a barrel of laughs. What we do know is that we're ready for change and effective governance. We're seeing a definite upturn in vacancies in Q2 echoing the sentiment in our recent Jobs Confidence Index ( JCI). With moves at c-suite and an increase in project demand, the immediate outlook appears positive. If you're a finance leader or interim professional wanting to discuss your next move, drop me a note. As for the 4th July, may the best party for the people win! And a good result in the Euros wouldn't go amiss either! #staypositive #ukelection #jobsinfinance #financeleadership #ukeconomy

Strap in - 2024 is going to be a massively busy and interesting time for those of us interested in politics and public affairs. Here are the thoughts I shared with PRWeek on what to expect in the coming year: “2024 is going to be a transformative year – half the world’s population are going to the polls as the conflicts in Israel/Gaza and Russia/Ukraine show no sign of being resolved. Organisations will need to navigate the rapidly changing political environment, seeking to influence appropriately the direction of policy and understand the impact of the outcomes not just on their businesses but on the communities and economies in which they operate. The smart consultancies and in-house teams will be working through scenarios now, getting the businesses and clients ready to leverage the opportunities and manage the risks – it is going to be busy.” Hill & Knowlton

📚 A new report outlines how South Cambridgeshire District Council’s four-day week trial has seen £434,000 less spent on agency staff covering hard to fill roles. This has been achieved by filling 10 permanent roles that the Council previously struggled to recruit to - particularly in the Planning Service, where the private sector pays more. This has led to the reduction in spending because directly employing staff in permanent roles is much more cost effective than hiring agency staff that the Council was relying on. The four-day week trial for desk-based staff began in January 2023, to help attract and keep talented colleagues in an incredibly competitive local employment market. This includes staff at Greater Cambridge Shared Planning, a service shared with Cambridge City Council. A trial for crews at Greater Cambridge Shared Waste, another service shared with Cambridge City Council, commenced in mid-September 2023.

🌍 Ever wondered how universities operate in multiple countries? 🌍 There is a growing trend of universities expanding overseas. In the last 12 months, we have seen the University of Southampton and Coventry University put down roots in India, and previously, the University of Lancaster (UK) and Deakin University (Australia) partnered to establish a joint overseas campus in Indonesia. From ground-breaking research projects to international academic collaborations, universities often relocate employees and teams across borders. But how do they manage this complex process? From handling visas to ensuring smooth transitions for faculty and staff, there’s a lot behind the scenes! Mauve Group, a finalist in The PIE's prestigious education awards, can help higher education institutions take those vital steps. Swipe across to see how. ➡
