"Everyone is in sales. It's the only way we stay in business." Harvey Mackey's observation presents you with an opportunity to insure everyone in your organization, private, public or non-profit help to raise your profile. Here are a few tactics to use: * Ask colleagues for references to set joint meetings with their customers. * Attend other groups meetings at your firm or company. * Ask for prospect and industry research. * Send copies of your updated bios, business descriptions, articles, etc. to your internal contacts. * Evaluate specific community/NPO organizations to become active and gain leadership commitments for all co-workers. * Look to develop joint-selling opportunities with your colleagues. CEO & Founder at Lisa Larter Group | #SheTalksBusiness Host | I help entrepreneurs strategize and market their expertise in a focused way that aligns with the business goals.
Imagine, for the first time in history, your team finally makes it to March Madness, and you are paired against the top team in the nation. This is what happened to the Stetson Hatters from Deland, Florida (very close to where I live) when they were paired against the UConn Huskies from Storrs, Connecticut, widely expected to win the entire tournament. During the first half, the Hatters team played like an unorganized high school team in over its heads. They lacked coordination and struggled to score a basket, and by halftime, UConn was leading them 52-19. 😳 But then, something changed. They came back after halftime, and while they didn't win the game, UConn only outscored them 39-33 in the second half. That's a two-basket margin versus the eleven three-point-basket margin they had over them during the first half. That is an 80% improvement in their performance after being beat down by a number one seeded team. 💪 This is a lesson in leadership. During halftime, their coach wrote down one word... Pride. He encouraged them to stick together and acknowledged that just being there was a win for this team. He inspired them to give it their best regardless of how they were feeling and play in a way they could be proud of. He said, "My biggest thing with them was it's going to be how we finish today, and we're going to be proud when we walk off this floor." And proud they should be. They rallied together and played exceptionally well. ➡ What about you? When you feel like you're losing in your business and feel as though there are so many other businesses that are far superior in how they do things, do you let it get to you, or do you dig deep down inside and leave the day feeling proud of your best efforts? My experience over the years has shown me that many entrepreneurs get stuck in a rut of excuses instead of a plethora of options. The next time you're questioning whether you've got what it takes, I encourage you to think about these young men who have not even finished college yet and ask yourself, can you pull it together after such a public and embarrassing start to your own game and finish strong? I bet you can. #MarchMadness #LessonsInLeadership #Pride #Leadership

My favorite tip in this post comes from a VP's career setback: "Try to be in every conversation so you can learn about all aspects of the role" (even if you get passed over for a promotion you think you deserve). #Advancement #Leadership

We applaud Outlier Media's Candice Fortman (she/her) for her decision to pass the Executive Director torch to Orlando Bailey. Transitioning leadership allows leaders to grow and develop while avoiding stifling their own paths. Plus, the diversity of thought that new leadership brings can be transformative. The power-sharing that Candice exemplified (vs the long-term power-hoarding we often see) is a cultural value that many others should adopt. #blackleadership #genxleadership #millenialleadership #whatupdoe

Not everyone is going to like you, and that’s OK. Just ask the Kansas City Chiefs. In 2019, the whole country wanted them to win the Super Bowl. Now that they’re winning consistently, haters are popping up everywhere. But here’s the thing—they stay focused, keep showing up, and continue winning. The same applies to business. When you're the underdog, people cheer you on. But when you start succeeding consistently, the critics come out. Don’t let it shake you. Stay focused, stay hungry, and keep pushing forward. Success attracts attention, both good and bad. #LineLava #ChiefsKingdom #BusinessMindset #StayFocused

Think back five years...2019. For reference, the Super Bowl champions were the New England Patriots. How many aspects of your business have changed in that time? What if you are doing your job in 2024 the same way as you were in 2019? Would you be more profitable, more productive, more efficient? Or, have you evolved to incorporate new strategies, technologies, tactics, etc. that allow you to be MORE successful today? Be curious. Be willing to explore new ways of doing things. Partner with visionaries and experts who can help forge a path based on where your market or industry is headed without ignoring the realities of today. Don't be like the New England Patriots, who finished last season 4-13 and fired Bill Belichick (their head coach with 6 Super Bowl wins to his credit)... #toobusy #evolve #newpartnership
