Improved job prospects, higher wages, and a greater likelihood of avoiding re-incarceration—these are the significant outcomes identified by Ben Sickle and Steven Schuster for incarcerated individuals who pursue education during their time in prison. Their study reveals that every dollar invested in the four significant forms of education—adult primary education, secondary, vocational, and college—yields returns that more than justify the initial investment. The return on investment for prison programs ranges from 61.15% for college to 205.13% for vocational coursework. This is of course what we mean when we talk about structural discrimination and why the fingers-in-the-ears dismissive attitude of some of our most senior politicians is so galling, especially when they are people of colour themselves. This is an important reminder that racism remains prevalent and real and that it isn't just about who makes it to positions of power or about overt racist abuse. It's insidious and it can and does persist and spread where leaders don't prioritise it for action. This is the translation of research to practice. The pre-employment version of the outcome measure is now in the hands of a small number of service providers who are assisting with field validity testing. It is expected that it will provide measurable guidance and evidence of client capacity building on their journey to employment. Once in employment, the original measure comes into play, as it was developed to measure the impact of employment post-placement. Once feedback starts, we'll revise where necessary and then seek ethics approval for a trial and empirical evaluation. This is just one more tool for employment professionals and families that supports our growing suite of resources and training for Customised Employment and Discovery. In light of the Supreme Court’s decision rejecting the request for enforcement the 2024 Title IX regulations and as institutions nationally launch the new school year, institutions should follow these steps now: Confirm if they are part of the injunction by checking https://lnkd.in/edb4a7JP If they are part of the injunction, they may wish to prepare and wait – ie review the 2024 regulations and consider how they may revise their current policies to align with the changes in the event the litigation finds in favor of the DOE. If they are not part of the injunction they should: Revise their Title IX policies to align with the 2024 Regulations Develop a Non Discrimination Policy Conduct training of ALL staff
