It's 2024, but I am still thinking about a lesson we learnt in 2023 during the #ConnectAfrica 😀. In order to successfully execute a strategy, you need to mind the gap between top leaders and teams below. In the words of Chris McChesney, the author of The 4 Disciplines of Execution, 'The highest levels of execution are never reached when the strategy is devised solely by the top leader of the organisation and simply handed down to the leaders and teams below. Without the involvement of all, you cannot generate the highest levels of commitment execution requires.' Connect Africa generated significant buy-in which we hope will translate to breakthrough implementation.

Leadership is not about being in charge; it's about taking full responsibility for those under your care. You cannot lead a company or organisation. You can only lead people. When two proficient, professional, and worldly leaders come together, the conversation is bound to be exceptional. Gabriel Tan and I began sharing life stories and our reasons for being in Cambodia. Most of our motivations aligned, but two stood out: the culture and the people of Cambodia. We both deeply believe in assisting with the growth of Cambodia. Gabriel focuses on #csr work through Prince Foundation and on corporate reputation through Prince Holding Group , demonstrating the incredible efforts both entities make to foster growth within #cambodia's real estate sector, creating opportunities for Cambodians with vocational training and scholarships leading to employment. We also had an eye-opening conversation about the growth of Execusoftware and the direction the brand will take within Cambodia and Southeast Asian markets (Indonesia, Vietnam, and Thailand). I’ve been observing how leaders communicate. Last week, Alvin Lee the new CEO of Maybank Singapore held his first townhall. I believe there were several wins in terms of communication 👏👏 👍 Started out by stating his philosophy. In other words, how to engage with him effectively. 👍 Use sticky words, memorable phrases. His was leading from the front, “sweeping the shed”, echoing the All Blacks’ superpower mantra. Everyone including leaders are responsible for the smallest, mundane tasks like cleaning out the locker room after a match. 👍 Know what to take out is as important as knowing what to include. In a first townhall, talking financials may be less important - it’s of course contextual – and instead focusing on key messages to set the tone. Infobank Indonesia New Publication: "The Art of Leadership in Crisis." I am honored to share my leadership journey in “The Art of Leadership in Crisis”, a newly published book by Infobank, a leading financial magazine in Indonesia. In this book 9 Indonesian institutional leaders shared their insights and experiences in navigating crisis, including the era of 1997 Asian Financial Crisis, 1998 Indonesia Monetary Crisis and 2007-2008 Global Financial Crisis.
