When assumptions become a reality. When I was a child, I had a massive vocabulary but once learning to read was an expectation, my caregivers began to notice that I made up stories based on the images rather than reading the actual words. When I was in second grade I was diagnosed with dyslexia, a learning difference that impacting how I intake and process information. Today we know that dyslexia comes with massive super powers — from thinking outside the box (because we often don’t see the box), being tenacious because we have learned to find our own path through systems not designed for us, to being brilliant at spacial design and systems thinking. It also has made me a great product manager because I can scan UI and see how intuitive a flow will be for those who are skimming the words and looking for the key action. However, when I was a child it wasn’t unheard of for people to assume that those with my “disability” wouldn’t go far in life (or even graduate from high school). I am grateful that my parents didn’t assume anything other than I’d achieve my dreams and have a large impact on the world — and so I set out to just figure it out. It hasn’t always been easy, but the more people assume good things, or “normal” things about you, the easier it is to step into those realities. This is a powerful message for everyone. Assuming people cannot do things, creates limits, and you put them there. Assume that I can and create inclusion for everyone If you are a leader in a field of work, think about how you can apply creative ownership and freedom for your teams to build on.

I love this piece! So impactful and moving! 🌈 We have the power to set standards and determine the baseline! Let’s lift it up for differently abled people and raise them up to all they can be! 💪 #Empowerment #Inclusion A lot of my friends and family know I have #ADHD, but not many know that part of it meant I struggled with my imagination and reality. 🧠✨ I learned how to differentiate it as I grew older - the opacity of my imagination became more opaque (ha! Now you think I’m crazy 😜) and I learned coping techniques to get over certain types of behaviours. As a creative person by job title and existence, it has been useful. But sometimes I lose it or am deemed weird. 😅 It is the ones that love me, accept me, and laugh with me through those moments that make me feel ok about the way I am, how I behave, and my place in this world. 🌎❤️ That and the fact that the sum of who I am is not determined by one moment of failure but all the experiences I have had, the lessons learned, and the aspiration to do better! 🚀 While I love robots 🤖.. I kinda love humans too because we all have things we aren’t so good at! But together we can be good at a lot of things! 🤝💡 #CreativeMinds #ADHDAwareness #TogetherStronger
