I am very much looking forward to this Citizens’ Dialogue at the Residenz am Dom in Cologne. The generation of our parents and grandparents laid the foundations for the European Union. Politicians like Robert Schuman, Konrad Adenauer, Jean Monnet or Alcide De Gaspari built their vision of a common Europe also on the continent’s heritage rooted partly in Christian values. What has changed since then and what does inspire and guide Europe today? #futuretalks #europeanunion

🇨🇭Today, we celebrate the 175th anniversary of our Federal Constitution, marking the birth of modern Switzerland and making our country the first stable democracy in Europe🇨🇭 Adopted on 12 September 1848, the Federal Constitution laid down the fundamental values that are still in our DNA : freedom, democracy, independence, and peace, in a spirit of solidarity and openness. In these troubled times, these values, which also echo the “Esprit de Genève”, must be ardently defended. They can serve as a compass in the midst of global disorientation.

New blog post! GDL members and scholars Dr. Banu Pekol and Dr. Annegret Warth write about their exhibition and project of historic buildings in Stuttgart. This collaboration united many stakeholders to show how buildings can be viewed as sites and witnesses to events, memories and experiences. Link below! Excerpt: "We shape our buildings, and then the buildings shape us. We form memories and associations with spaces, which can be triggered later in another foreign but familiar space. The Dutch city of Maastricht is well worth a visit, seeing it has the second-highest number of national heritage buildings in the Netherlands (second only to Amsterdam). Moreover, its entire city center including the city hall, several notable churches, the striking St. Servatius Bridge, and a number of museums, is a conservation area. In an EU context, Maastricht is best known for being the place where the EU in its present form was formally founded through the contract of the same name. The Maastricht Treaty replaced the Treaties of Rome, laying the foundation for a hitherto unknown degree of cooperation in foreign and security policy as well as judicial and domestic affairs.
