If you are like me, I only need to scroll through podcasts briefly to see the title of longevity or health span arise. Health span and lifespan are also the subjects of intimate conversations between aging and younger family members. As for clinicians, such conversations are vital to understanding each patient's values well before end-of-life discussions. A positive and holistic framework for addressing both health span and lifespan is to discuss the six pillars of lifestyle medicine with your older adult patients. That's because the pillars of lifestyle medicine — optimal nutrition, physical activity, stress management, restorative sleep, positive social connections, and avoidance of risky substances — either individually or as a sum are associated with less chronic disease, improved engagement in life, better physical and cognitive function, less frailty, and less sarcopenia. Please tell me how this resonates with you, whether you are a clinician, an individual, or someone in a related field working with older adults! #longevity #healthspan #seniorhealth #lifestylemedicine #dementia AARP Foundation

June is Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month, a time to recognize the importance of compassionate, attentive, and coordinated care for the elderly. As we age, the need for comprehensive support becomes paramount, especially for those living with Alzheimer's and other brain-related conditions. Compassion: Compassionate care involves understanding and empathy, addressing not just the physical needs but also the emotional and psychological well-being of elderly individuals. By fostering a loving and supportive environment, caregivers can help alleviate the stress and anxiety often associated with ageing and cognitive decline. Attention: Attentive care means being vigilant and responsive to the changing needs of the elderly. Regular check-ins, personalized care plans, and active listening are essential. This attention ensures that any health issues are promptly addressed, and the individual feels valued and respected. Coordination: Coordinated care involves seamless communication and collaboration among caregivers, healthcare professionals, and family members. This holistic approach ensures that all aspects of the elderly's health are managed effectively, from medication management to social activities, promoting a better quality of life. Incorporating these elements into elderly care can significantly enhance the well-being and happiness of our senior loved ones, making their later years more comfortable and fulfilling. Let’s commit to providing compassionate, attentive, and coordinated care, not just during Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month, but throughout the year. #geriatriccare #alzheimercare #assistedcare #geriatricmanagement #qualityoflife #compassion #attention #coordination #posthospitalizationcare #homehealthcare #caregiver #geriatricmedicine Short-Term Geriatric Rehabilitation Care Geriatrics Medical Billing Geriatric Medicine Dharshitha Varigonda Dr. Akash Jaiswal Dr Ramprasad Nittala Jay Kirtani Dr. Shubha Somasundaram Dr. Arup Kumar Misra Dr.Karpora Sundara Pandyen P Sakthi KiruthikaDr. Sharanya Anantharamu Dr. Sudeep George Sabyasachi Mohapatra Bhawana Painkra praveen chiluka

Exciting news! Our review article on “Sensory Diets and Dementia Management” is now available online. Sensory processing to various input from the environment is a fundamental function of the central nervous system. Dysfunctions or anomalies in this process are often present in patients with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias and manifest as over-reaction or hyposensitivity impinging upon an individual's capacity to function optimally in daily life activities. In this article we delve into the so called “sensory diets” which recently have garnered scientific attention among the nonpharmacologic approaches for dementia management because of their potential to mitigate these issues. In the 2024 update to the standing Lancet Commission on dementia prevention, intervention, and care adds two new risk factors (high LDL cholesterol and vision loss) and indicates that nearly half of all dementia cases worldwide could be prevented or delayed by addressing 14 modifiable risk factors. Accounting 45% of risk factors that can be targeted and addressed. At the #UniversityofMiami Comprehensive Center for Brain Health we look at these modifiable risk factors and develop personalized, tailored interventions in healthy populations for dementia prevention. #healthybrain #dementia #Alzheimers #dementiaprevention
