When you work with a strong group of people, it lifts everything you do. It all sparks from a spirit of generosity and doing more together. Taking an approach to be creative as a team, is messy learning, but it leads to solutions that no person could have conceived alone. This was where I began. When you start a side project, it’s just you trying to convince people to join in. It requires a lot of effort. You’re on your own with your ideas and delivery, trying to get others’ attention. It can be draining and for me, it was such a slog and felt lonely. What matters is to build your space one person at a time. You don't need to be chasing numbers, leave that to the show-offs. A group of committed and thoughtful people can have a greater impact than trying to make a difference alone. This pic is the leaderboard from the past 30 days in YATM Club. These are some of the talented people in our membership space where we lift each other and we've made an environment where everyone can thrive. Maybe there are people here that you know? You should read them and interact with the content. You should also look for the 1 or 2 things on a list like this that you can do better on. #12 is my favorite. It follows my personal belief that a THANK YOU NOTE for any occasion should not be "Thanks for coming to my party. Thank you for the gift. It was great to see you - love Jeff Isbell". Any thank you note should include something specific to that person; an inside joke; a tiny story from the day; a mention of something in the future; but something that shows that you made that person a focus of attention for several minutes and you sincerely appreciate them. Why is a Thank You Note different? (very fast example) Dear Saul Hudson, It was great meeting with you today to talk about the Chief Rock Officer role. I appreciated how you described the specific culture of the leadership and company. I was thinking more about the question of what I'm most proud of having achieved since college and in the moment I felt like the original forming of the team in 1986 was it but I was thinking I was more proud of making some of those partnerships last the test of time since after 20 years we were able to bring the team back together, create new products and get back in touch with many of our original clients. We ran out of time in person but I was hoping you could answer a couple of more questions for me via email perhaps or happy to connect via phone. 1. What do you think the hardest part of the role will be for anyone coming into it? 2. What do you believe is the single largest threat to the company's success? 3. Unasked for advice for Creatives (especially those with less than 5 years of experience): when deciding whether to stay put or take a new job that doesn't include a huge bump in salary but will let you produce great work you can bank on later in your career, GO FOR THE WORK and the money will come. It's so important in place marketing to take the time to involve your stakeholders and to bring the community along. Too often do we see people wanting to launch a brand, a website, a campaign quickly with limited research and feedback....and almost always when they do that, something comes back to bite them. This is also coming from someone who likes to activate, so I get the need for speed, but sometimes slowing down reaps larger rewards (which is probably a good motto for not just place marketing, but life in general;). #econdev #economicdevelopment
