Biodiversity is our ally in the battle to counter the effects of climate change. And to make that happen, we all need to ‘be part of the plan’* – this year’s theme for International Day for Biodiversity. Protecting this balance is an important objective of our One Planet Sustainability Strategy and is something our colleagues are committed to. 82% of our sites have taken part in at least one biodiversity initiative since the launch of our Sustainability Strategy in 2021 and there are plans to do more. Volunteering for biodiversity initiatives also give our colleagues the opportunity to collaborate across our Group. Colleagues in the UAE from Spirax Sarco, Gestra, Watson-Marlow and Chromalox all recently pooled their resources to help a farmer in Masfout whose farm had been affected during the recent floods. Together, they helped to clear the area and plant 90 Sidr saplings, a native evergreen tree to the Middle East, renowned for the unique honey produced by bees that pollinate its flowers.
