Construction is moving steadily on the $58 million expansion of our Chromalox manufacturing facility in Ogden, Utah. Most of the structural steel and cement foundations have now been completed, ready for the addition of panels for walls. Drilling continues of the wells for a new ground source heat pump system that will efficiently heat and cool the facility year-round to reduce our emissions. Selecting a highly efficient system that uses renewable, geothermal energy reflects our commitment to increase the sustainability of our operations. We remain on pace for the new building to be LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold certified. #BusinessExpansion #SustainableSolutions #EnergyEfficiency #RenewableEnergy #Chromalox

A new £1.7m geothermal heat pump project is officially underway at British Geological Survey’s (BGS) headquarters in Nottinghamshire — which will save the organisation 30 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year and accelerate its net zero ambitions. Ruth Edwards, MP for Rushcliffe, broke ground on the scheme, which will decarbonise BGS’s operations and drastically reduce its heating bill at its Rushcliffe base. It is the largest renewable energy system of its kind in the area, consisting of an array of 28 boreholes drilled to a depth of 225m. The project is majority funded by the NERC: Natural Environment Research Council, with a further contribution from the UK Government’s Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme. Pick Everard has provided the initial designs for the project, alongside main civils contractor Cenergist, as well as multi-disciplinary services on site including project management, quantity surveying, building services, geo-environmental and health and safety consultancy. Michael Potter, Senior Environment Manager at NERC, comments: "This inspiring project to decarbonise heat at the BGS Keyworth campus will reduce our reliance on fossil fuels. This is the first geothermal heat pump system to be installed on the UKRI estate and will support our journey to net zero in 2040. "What makes this project extra special is the ‘living lab’ feature which will support data collection and knowledge sharing that could inform the heat pump sector as a whole." https://lnkd.in/efHvNZgH #geothermal #heatpumps #netzero #lowcarbonheating #multidisciplinary #datacollection #renewablenergy #reducingemissions #campus

Soil Solutions can significantly enhance the sustainability and community impact of large-scale renewable projects like the Merak 2 & 3 solar photovoltaic projects by WBHO Construction and The SOLA Group in Lichtenburg. Our expertise in creating durable and environmentally friendly roads using advanced soil stabilization techniques ensures reliable access for construction and maintenance while reducing overall project costs and environmental impact. Moreover, our dust control solutions can minimize the disruption to local communities by reducing airborne particulates, contributing to healthier living conditions around project sites. Soil Solutions' involvement can extend beyond infrastructure solutions. By engaging in community initiatives, similar to WBHO and Sola Group, Soil Solutions can assist in educational programs focused on environmental stewardship and renewable energy, providing training and skills development that align with the long-term operational needs of solar plants. This approach not only helps in meeting immediate project requirements but also fosters a positive relationship with the community, ensuring lasting benefits and support for renewable energy initiatives. https://lnkd.in/dUGn_D6d #solarprojects #solarfarms #communityinitiatives #educationalprograms #skillsdevelopment #environmentalstewardship #roadconstruction #environmentallyfriendly #soilstabilization #dustcontrol #dustfree #maintenancefree #operationalefficiency #healthyenvironment

ICYMI: BTS LECTURE – KIDSTON PUMPED STORAGE PROJECT Did you know that the British Tunnelling Society archives all of their evening lectures on YouTube as a free to access educational resource? In February 2023 Clare Onal of Mott MacDonald delivered an in-depth presentation on the Kidston Pumped Storage Project. Kidston will be the world's first conversion of a gold mine into a hydroelectric pumped storage facility –setting a benchmark for similar conversions globally. The Kidston pumped storage project will be the first pumped hydro plant to be built in Australia since 1984. This transformative project by renewable energy and storage company Genex Power will be the cornerstone of a renewable energy zone (REZ) that will provide clean, cheap and firm power to the area. The existing site comprises two gold mine pits with more than 100 years of operations. These pits will be converted into the top and bottom reservoirs for the Kidston pumped storage project. Significant underground infrastructure, including a large powerhouse cavern, waterway shafts and tunnels to allow the transfer of water between the reservoirs will need to be engineered. Check out the full presentation here: https://lnkd.in/gYKpnCXn Follow the British Tunnelling Society for the latest insight on tunnel-related matters To learn about the benefits of joining the British Tunnelling Society click here: https://bit.ly/3r0MPoU #BritishTunnellingSociety #civilengineering #undergroundconstruction #tunnelling
