Thank you The Student Voice for sharing this Carlene Firmin Ted Talk on Contextual Safeguarding. An insightful listen, particularly interesting from point 11.40mins in, from a school perspective. Knowing the hotspot areas of vulnerability for students is imperative to Safeguarding them. The flipside of this is the lack of funding in schools to be able to put in some measures or resources that might provide long term solutions. However, being able to understand where there are areas of concern, from a child's perspective, should mean that we can begin to think about how to tackle these target areas.

Who would have thought it? Providing a safe, supportive environment with access to the services they need, and information to make informed decisions has better outcomes. I hope we can look back in 10 years and wonder why we ever left people in crisis alone in motel rooms when they’re afraid. Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) is not the only sector relying on motels to meet service demand. Can we make this the norm for DFV and replicate this principle in all our social services planning - to put fences at the top of the cliff instead of investing in more ambulances at the bottom?

In a world where child safety is increasingly at risk, education is the most potent tool for prevention. Workshops like the one organized by the Anon Global Foundation at Summer Fields School, Kailash Colony serve as invaluable resources for empowering children with the knowledge and skills to protect themselves from harm. By fostering open dialogue, promoting awareness, and teaching essential safety measures, we can create safer environments where children can thrive without fear. Children often lack the knowledge and vocabulary to identify and articulate inappropriate touch. Therefore, workshops like these play a pivotal role in providing them with the necessary information and skills to recognize and respond to various forms of touch appropriately. Knowing when and how to seek help is essential for children's safety. The workshop equipped students with the knowledge of whom to approach if they encounter an unsafe touch, whether it be a teacher, parent, or helpline. #ChildSafety #EmpowerChildren #SafeTouch #UnsafeTouch #ProtectingChildren #EducationForSafety #Boundaries #ConsentAwareness #WorkshopsForKids #AnonGlobalFoundation #SummerFieldSchool
