A very fascinating partnership coming out of Luminosity Gaming and Maryville University. While specifics of this deal may be an isolated instance given the current Overwatch 2 competitive landscape. I do think this opens the door to many more partnerships similar to this, particularly with regard to organizations wanting to get involved in challenger's leagues or developing esports titles. Daniel Clerke on twitter mentioned that the name of the game right now is sustainability for esports organizations moving forward. This partnership reduces the overhead for major organizations with regard to operating multiple teams thus making long term operation much more likely. I could very much envision a world in which more organizations start adopting this business practice to operate in more titles. Perhaps we'll see the Call of Duty Challenger's league make a resurgence with more major organizations throwing their hats in the proverbial ring with partnerships from universities with facilities to house, feed, and, more importantly, develop these players as the pursue their path to professional play. Very exciting and interesting times for the world of collegiate esports. https://lnkd.in/eXWCHaXB

25+ Years Later, "Bowling Alone" continues to hit home Robert Putnam, political scientist and sociologist from Harvard, wrote a book in 2000 called Bowling Alone: The Collapse and Revival of American Community. The book sites research about the decline in community involvement in everything from PTAs to religious groups to community organizations to yes, bowling leagues. He surmised back 20+ years ago that bowling by yourself you "did not participate in the social interaction and civic discussions that might occur in a league environment." Since then, with ups and down, generational changes, Covid, great streaming content and new norms about how we work in person, we continue to see these effects. This is the primary reason I founded ZogSports after 9/11 - to build community and help people feel connected to others through common interests. And it's why we started ZogCulture - to build connections at work through fun events. So my call to action is join 1 club, 1 organization, 1 interest group or yes 1 league. Say yes to doing things with friends and co-workers And if all of the above isn't enough incentive, Robert Putnam's research says: "Joining and participating in one group cuts in half your odds of dying next year." Morbid, but I'm in. . . http://bowlingalone.com/ #zogsports #zogculture #bowlingalone #sportsleagues #companyculture #companyteams

One of the joys of March Madness is the complete chaos the tournament presents. But if you look around college sports right now, it’s more than just the games that are unpredictable. The whole industry feels like it’s serving up chaos soup. These major factors are fundamentally changing college sports: 👉 NIL rules have given athletes new opportunities to earn money 👉 The transfer portal has made player movement far more common 👉 Conference realignment has upended long-time rivalries At the heart of these changes is almost always the same thing: Money. Players will seek new opportunities, including changing schools if there is a better chance to showcase themselves. Schools are looking around and trying to pair up to form super conferences to cash in on TV rights and ticket sales. Some of this will likely be for the better – We'll almost certainly see some restrictions and regulations that will act as guardrails for the future. But a lot of it feels like a great unknown right now. College sports is going to look a lot different than it has for much of its history. What do you think of these changes? #sportsbusiness #NIL #innovation

🎙️ 𝐋𝐎𝐍𝐆 𝐄𝐏𝐈𝐒𝐎𝐃𝐄 𝐀𝐋𝐄𝐑𝐓, but this is exactly the kind of story we’ve been looking for—human connection, storytelling, and impact. We had a meaningful chat with Staffan Holmberg, one of the founders of Djurgården Skolidrott, or the Djurgården School Sports Association. But why would Djurgårdens IF Fotboll created this entity and have a 30-year vision for making an impact and becoming a local phenomenon? 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬: ▶️ The school sports program isn’t a short-term project—it’s a lasting entity. ▶️ U.S. mainstream sports entertain, but college sports build real identity and loyalty. ▶️ Shared value is the intersection of societal problems, resources, and knowledge ▶️People don’t need pity — they need real opportunities to succeed. ▶️ Smaller & emerging markets? Don’t go global—dig deep locally and stay relevant. 🎧 Listen to the episode: https://lnkd.in/dnJPHgqx 📰 Read the summary: https://lnkd.in/d4iDkDY6
