President, Doors at Owens Corning®

Day 1.   Everyone has been through some version of a day 1. Your first day at a new company. The morning you show up to work after getting a coveted promotion. Your first day back after taking parental leave for the arrival of a new member of the family. Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, had a well-known focus on the importance of keeping a Day 1 philosophy alive and well in a company and avoiding Day 2 thinking which can lead to complacency and over-processing.   At Masonite®, we just went through a significant Day 1. Our 99 year-old company is now part of Owens Corning, and we had the opportunity to say goodbye to our departing CEO, Howard Heckes, and to welcome our new CEO, Brian Chambers, at an all-employee event to mark our first day at OC. It is a very exciting time that is full of promise and opportunity, but also questions from employees on what to expect as we begin this new chapter.   No matter what your Day 1 looks like, I would propose that there is one attribute that matters more than anything else in every one of these scenarios.  Having a Growth Mindset.   Every Day 1 marks the beginning of significant change, and no matter what that looks like, there are going to be things that go well and things that miss your expectations. When we experience change, we have the opportunity to push out of our comfort zone and drive progress towards our goals.  As I pass through this latest Day 1 experience, I have re-committed to bringing my best, positive self to this exciting new opportunity and hope that all my Masonite and Owens Corning colleagues will do the same as we build our new company together.   #Day1 #PositiveAttitude #Grow

Love your post and your positive attitude towards change Chris. Congratulations on a new Day 1 and your continued success. I remember having a lot of Day 1 conversations with you in Varese as we navigated a very different landscape- every moment of change is an opportunity to learn and grow.

Congratulations on nailing yet another Day 1 Chris Ball. You are an approachable and inspiring leader that continues to make me smile when I see your posts because you are living proof that great leaders connect with their people in a different way than those who are just assuming the leadership title. BTW - If you haven't read it, there is a book by Drew Dudley called "This is Day One: A Practical Guide to Leadership that Matters." It's an excellent read. I can't wait to see the positive difference you'll make in your new role.
