PROPOSED CYCLE LANE FOR ABERDEEN CITY CENTRE. It’s been proposed that a cycle lane could be built from Westhill into Aberdeen city centre, sounds good until you get into the detail. Firstly, a Dutch-style roundabout is proposed. This would mean cyclists have their own lanes that are typically physically separated from other vehicles. But, the plans do not stop there. It also would involve narrowing roads, more bus lanes, changing roundabouts, and restricting city centre parking, which would include Carden Place, Skene Street, and Rosemount Viaduct. I will need a lot of convincing to think that this move is a good step for Aberdeen. It seems to me that lessons learned from the LEZ and bus Lanes are that traffic restrictions mean fewer people coming into the city centre to spend money in local businesses, instead, they drive to Aberdeenshire to spend money in towns not restricting free movement. What are your thoughts? Leave me a comment below.  #Aberdeen #Cyclelanes #LEZ #Buslanes

I can only speak from. Glasgow perspective. New wide bike lanes are everywhere in the city and are hardly used. The carriageways for cars are jammed every day adding to emissions and forcing people to go elsewhere to shop etc. It’s a changed city and not for the better. Low footfall empty shops and litter everywhere is a symptom of the push for bike lanes which do not get used. It’s a joke. Not only have they added to traffic jams but they are systematically destroying the city centre all in the name of “cleaner” air when the emissions targets have already been met. Someone is making money by doing this.

I really do think that Aberdeen council have far more pressing issues to address than further disruption, upset and a whole heap of bickering over what, when, where, why. Can they just not stick to the "knitting" of local governance and get the city back on its feet first. Get the buses sorted, get more park and rides, sort the trains out. Stop messing about, and stop trying to be eco warriors, get the basics right first.

How much foot fall is that going to bring into the city none I think it’s a plan to ruin Aberdeen as they’re off to a good start with bus lanes and lez Aberdeen council hold your head in shame maybe see if we can get a canal from the Don also and we can get a banana boat into Aberdeen as well

It would perhaps be a good idea if they were going to build a new cycle path away from the road. In other countries when they build cycle paths or bus lanes these are in addition to the existing roads, not taking space away from them.

Further evidence of the political master plan to remove cars from suburban routes in Scotland's cities. Wake up people this is not happening by accident, but by design. The foolishness of being driven by ideology is evident in this instance. Reduce vehicle access to the Aberdeen by-pass, the cost to the tax payer some £1200 million pounds, forcing remaining traffic back on to the very roads it was designed to relieve to avoid the congestion. More cost, more pollution.

Could it just be that some of the council clowns live in Westhill area and ride bikes as their favoured mode of transport on the odd office day when tthe WFH is off the cards ? Every city is the same .. post covid when these crazy green bike lanes appeared the roads are narrower , streets are congested , all for the worse for our towns and cities …. Its high time these idiotic council decisions were aennse checked and some of those making these decisions were punted out on their ears !

This is not a priority . We have hundreds of of more pressing problems to work on. I suspect this nonsense is a combination or a “spend it or lose it “ budgeting and simple bad admin. If you had given the 204,000 aberdonians an opportunity to list their opinion on what needs done that not a single person would have come up with this daft idea.

Whoever proposed this needs removed from the council

I can't think we schemes that work perfectly in flat, warm and sunny holland won't work in hilly, cold and rainy Aberdeen total mystery

Yet people keep voting these councillors in (albeit on pretty low turnouts)...............
