New paper! 🙌 Patients often feel overwhelmed/anxious when learning about their #cancer. This may lowers comprehension of critical health information & often leads to non-adherence to therapies. To bridge this health literacy gap we explored #VisualAids for #CancerCommunication treatment paths. We showed that visual aids significantly improve response quality compared to other audio/verbal information only, increased confidence, and their information quality was rated higher. In the clinic, patients understood and remembered their treatment paths well when visual aids were used. Both enrolled patients and physicians found these aids helpful, with many patients treasuring and keeping them. Take-away: Our work highlights the importance of visual aids for clinical care, and encourages us to continue efforts towards more equitable, patient-centered communication. This important guideline by ESMO - European Society for Medical Oncology provides a set of evidence-based recommendations to further improve #DoctorPatientCommunication in #CancerCare. This is an #OpenAccess article that I believe holds relevance for all #HealthCommunication professionals, since it is a great exemplar of how researchers may translate #ResearchFindings into guidelines applicable for #ClinicalPractice to improve #QualityOfCare. #QualitativeResearch #ESMOGuidelines
