“The perspective that I've learned over this past year is that we can do hard things well. Sometimes you think that was a tough year, that was a tough project, and it's going to get easier…you're growing from those hard times so that you're prepared for the next hard thing you do. And I've really learned that I can do that next thing. I can do that hard thing. And at the end of the day it's nice to see and realize that when the next hard thing comes, and I have that doubt, I can look back on this and go, oh, it will work out. It will be for the benefit of everyone.” Julie Arrowsmith, President & CEO, G6 Hospitality LLC Hospitality

“Be interested; don't be interesting. If you're genuinely trying to get to know people, they will open up because most people like to speak about themselves. Listen intently when they speak to you, and you'll build a relationship. And you'll be surprised they know someone that you know. And then you start to tie those together, and after 35 years, the network becomes pretty diverse.” Thom Geshay, CEO & President, Davidson Hospitality Group

Thom shares with Lan Elliott of DEI Advisors how mentors and his innate curiosity were instrumental in his rise from bellman to CEO of Davidson, and how learning to delegate and trust his team benefits everyone.
He discusses how many decisions involve risk, the dangers of waiting until you gather 100% of the data, and the need to be supportive when your team takes calculated risks that don’t work out.
Thom also explains how to establish a mentoring relationship, and why mentoring others can be a gift.

“Make [self care] a priority as the individual…as a leader, you have to facilitate an environment where people feel like they're empowered to do it and give them the permission to do it. When you come into an organization and you're leading a team, some people feel like they can't take time off or while they're on vacation or over the weekend, send emails or get on calls. And I'm the first one on my team that discourages that. And frankly, times where I just demand that people don't do that. There has to be a period where you're recharging the batteries and recuperating…step away for a little bit and come back and be able to pick it back up again and rev the engine higher than I did before.” Aly El-Bassuni, Divisional President, Aimbridge Hospitality

Karim Gharbi, GM of The St. Regis Abu Dhabi, shares seven key lessons in hospitality leadership honed over three decades.
He shares: "In this industry, it is easy to get caught up in the hustle, but quality trumps quantity every time. I have seen teams spread themselves too thin, trying to do everything at once. The result? Mediocre work and frustrated staff."
From embracing the unknown to prioritising authenticity, Gharbi advocates for focusing on quality over quantity and taking breaks to recharge creatively. His insights highlight the importance of connecting with teams and fostering a culture of excellence.

🚀From Vision to Reality:
My thoughts Journey in the Hospitality Industry, Aligned with CEO's Insights
14 days ago, I shared a post where I analyzed and explained my expectations of a booming future for the hospitality industry, with a special focus on IHCL, Chalet and Lemontree, It's truly amazing to see how my thoughts are aligning with the vision of industry leaders. (My Post Link added)- https://lnkd.in/d2tUipVZ
Just 7 days ago, the MD & CEO of IHCL, a true luminary in the hospitality sector, addressed the same topic with a top-class media channel "Business Today", reiterating many of the points I made in my post. It's incredible to realize that my way of thinking and analyzing the market is moving in parallel with the thoughts of a prominent CEO.

This alignment has given me goosebumps and affirmed that my vision and insights are on the right track. It reminds me that dreams can indeed be nurtured into reality, especially when your thinking resonates with the leaders of the industry.
As I continue to explore my aspirations and dreams of becoming a future CEO or CFO, this experience fuels my determination and confidence. After all, dreams are born from thoughts, and when your thoughts are akin to those of top leaders, you become unstoppable in your journey to achieve your goals.

Hotel GMs are invaluable. At least, the good ones are!
I’ve been lucky enough to have worked with 100s of incredible GMs in my time. Each with a unique approach to hotel management. Each with their own priorities.
The greatest hotel leaders:
🎇 Inspire and create energy and excitement. Just like Malcolm Allan.
🤝 Create an interdependent trustworthy team. Just like Craig Munro.
🏋️♂️ Set a high bar. Just like Sven Morné Goosen, MBA.
🌱Nurture their talent. Just like Gary Rice.
💡Engage and recognise their teams in hotel culture. Just like Ahmet Donmez
👨🏫 Train and develop a high performing team of hospitality experts. Just like….. All of the above!
And that’s what high performing leaders, in my slightly biased opinion (!) have in common. A passion and focus to grow and develop their teams. Every GM who has focused on training and development I’ve ever known has ALWAYS had a strong hotel performance to back it up.
📌 What (or who!) have I missed?
