Kids birthday party at home. 10 kids for 3 hours, and I’m on the edge of mental breakdown. And I haven’t even come out of my home office. 😬 That’s why I have soooo much respect for preschool teachers. Somehow they have the ability to match the energy levels of preschoolers and engage 20+ kids in learning activities throughout the entire day. 🫡 And the thing is, that’s not all. Governments and umbrella organisations want to ensure the best possible education for children and therefore want teachers to operate within a certain framework. This has led to initiatives that started out with the best intentions but eventually created a situation where the framework put a major (often useless) administrative burden on teachers, increasing their workload and draining their motivation and enthusiasm. Not good. But it doesn’t have to be like that. There are incredible opportunities to address the needs and interests of all stakeholders without making such sacrifices. With Smart Symbols, we’ve turned this into our mission. Stripping away boring and useless administration, we’re returning the time to preschool teachers to do what they love. And not only that, we’re also providing them with insights they’ve never had before, allowing more individual progress and behavioural follow-up. As one teacher puts it: “This makes preparation and follow-up so much easier. Lessons, goals, evaluations, insights, … it’s all connected and so easy to use. I’m a huge fan! ” And we only just got started 😀 🚀

Parents, it's time for the... Summer Camp Scramble! Here's how you play the game: 1. Research potential camps your kids might like --> What the camp is, location (and how long it will take you to get there), ages, hours (and aftercare options), price, equipment, parent involvement 2. Make a *tentative* schedule --> And block off any time for family vacations 3. Send schedule to friends who might want to join and 🤞 carpool 4. PAUSE for responses 5. Adjust schedule to match friends' 6. Put registration dates on your calendar 7. ACTUALLY REGISTER --> and don't forget all of the forms! 8. Remember which camps are when 9. Prep for each camp, get the equipment, and adjust schedules to make it in time. 10. Go to camp!!! (multiply this by the # of children 😄) Don't want to play this year? We're here to help!

Can you smell the pine trees, feel the fresh water, hear the crickets, the song and the laughter? Summer camp… Sleep away summer camp was one of my most formative experiences, and for our two children, it was LIFE-CHANGING. Like the best Montessori programs, most great sleep-away summer camps are screen-free, hands-on, real-life experiences for children. They invite independence, learning to get along with others, and that special blend of challenge and relaxation that makes us feel alive, complete, and deeply happy. With scholarships and efforts to include all children, camp can be an option for YOUR family; I highly recommend searching for one today, and enrolling for this summer! (Personally, I recommend day camps for children roughly ages 6-9, and sleepaway experiences for children 12 and older–but some are ready to go away at age 9 or 10, and some need to wait until their teens–every child is unique, there’s no one-size fits all! Ask trusted camp staff for advice on determining readiness for your situation and their specific camp).
