Our approach goes beyond traditional methods, focusing on restoring and enhancing our farm ecosystems. 🌱 Here's why we're passionate about it: 1️⃣ High-Quality, Nutrient-Dense Food: Regenerative farming enriches the soil, leading to crops packed with essential nutrients and robust flavors. 2️⃣ Resilience to Extreme Weather: By building healthier soil, our farm becomes more resilient to droughts, floods, and other weather extremes, ensuring a more reliable harvest year after year. 3️⃣ Increased Water Retention & Quality: Through practices like conservation tillage and cover cropping, we're improving water retention in the soil and enhancing water quality for our crops and local ecosystems. 4️⃣ Carbon Sequestration: Our farm acts as a carbon sink, capturing CO2 from the atmosphere and storing it in the soil, helping combat climate change. In the heart of the Midwest, we're committed to leaving the land better than we found it. 🌾

Peatlands are crucial for combating climate change 🌍 They store more carbon than all other vegetation types in the world combined. But, crucially, when they become damaged or degraded, greenhouse gas emissions are released. At The Manchester Metropolitan University, Dr Chris Field (Science and Engineering) and Lauryn Mcloughlin have been conducting impactful, innovative research on how best to protect and restore peatlands. Most recently, this has been through the Natural England-funded OPEN-peat project, which focuses on engagement and knowledge exchange between farmers, landowners and policymakers 👩🏫 We were thrilled to facilitate their recent OPEN-peat policy workshop, including attendees from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs & NFU (National Farmers' Union), exploring paludiculture (farming on rewetted peat) and key policy solutions 🤝 Read about the discussions and outcomes below 👇 https://lnkd.in/eRzEWG6h

🌱 Ever wondered how soil carbon is measured? BBC News has you covered. Last November, it featured one of our flagship portfolio projects in an article. Leicestershire-base Blaston Farm generates soil carbon certificates from its regenerative agriculture. Blaston Farm works with ecometric ltd to measure the carbon content of its soil. David Wright, a former Red Arrow pilot, set up ecometric to use a combination of satellite measurement, laboratory analysis and artificial intelligence to assess soil samples. David Wright understands both the need to accelerate carbon capture, and the vast potential of our soils to do so. Speaking of the climate crisis, he said: “If we don't turn the corner by the end of the decade then we are really in trouble. But this is a real, good news story." Hylton Murray Philipson, owner of Blaston Farm was also interviewed. He said: "What we've demonstrated here is a financial viability for a more sustainable way of farming. I think we can contribute to food security, but also to climate security, so it really is a message of hope for the future." Did you know that up to 40 per cent of the planet’s land is degraded? Although degraded lands have lost some natural productivity, these lands still hold environmental and economic value. Today is World Environment Day with the theme 'Our Land. Our Future' focusing on land restoration and halting desertification and drought. 🌍 At Self Help Africa, today and every day, we’re committed to the objectives of World Environment Day and protecting our precious planet. Regenerative agriculture, restoration and reforestation efforts are at the core of our work with small-scale farming communities in Africa. 🌿 🌊 Read more:

So, let me ask you... Who else but Agriculture to have on your side to create solutions to climate change? Agriculture has the power to solve some of our most challenging environmental problems. & When it comes to protecting the environment, soil is currently one of the greatest untapped defenses we have. With proper land management soil can act as a carbon sink and actually REMOVE carbon from the air. And while yes, the Ag sector does contribute to our planet's GHG emissions, I truly believe if we invest in the Agriculture industry as I'm a climate SOLUTION we will see a positive ROl. Along with storing carbon, Ag helps provide habitat for wildlife, filter clean water, produce nutritious food, support communities and the list goes on. So, who else is better equipped to handle this then the stewards of the land themselves? This is a question that is the foundation for many of my keynotes and advocacy efforts. If you're interested in collaborating on a similar project aligned with this question, send me a message or email me at [email protected] to chat. #DiscoverAg #KovarikCattleCo #Agriculture

🌱 Civilization, as we know it today, owes its existence to agriculture. However, conventional farming practices, which exploit natural resources without giving back to the environment, have contributed to global warming and climate change. In regions like Central America, highly vulnerable to climate shocks, entire communities depend on small-scale farming for their livelihoods. Therefore, new approaches are needed to ensure the prevalence of agriculture in society. At Cosecha Partners, one of our impact areas is focused on regenerating the environment. We do this through regenerative agriculture - a holistic approach to farming that preserves natural resources while creating healthy food, people, and ecosystems. 🌍 Our outreach program empowers farmers to build regenerative farm systems that promote soil health, strengthen resiliency, and use ecology to drive profitability. We design, install, and promote regenerative systems that build soil health, enhance biodiversity, and foster more resilient farming communities. Our core systems are centered around coffee-macadamia, cacao-hardwoods, and chia-legumes Join us in cultivating a future where agriculture doesn't just sustain life but enriches it. Together, we can ensure a thriving planet for generations to come. 🌿 #RegenerativeAgriculture #SustainableFarming #Environment #Sustainability

As Climate Week 2024 comes to a close, we’re inspired by the conversations, connections, and commitments made toward a more sustainable and resilient future. 🌍 This week reaffirmed that true climate action starts from the ground up—literally—with farmers leading the way. Through the Forest Garden Approach, farmers are restoring degraded lands, creating green jobs, and building climate-resilient communities. From transparent carbon credits to green entrepreneurship to food systems and agroforestry, the future of climate solutions is in the hands of local leaders. We look ahead to continuing our mission: partnering with farmers to scale solutions that deliver lasting impact for people and the planet. We must continue to push forward these solutions to create a sustainable and equitable future for all. Together, we can and must keep driving change—one farmer, one tree, one solution at a time. #UNGA78 #ClimateWeekNYC #FarmerLeadership #ForestGardenApproach #NatureBasedSolutions #Agroforestry #GreenJobs #ClimateAction #Sustainability #GlobalImpact

#News| Weathering the Storm for Agriculture Sustainability West Midlands, in collaboration with the Environment Agency and our Associate Mike Peverill, has now published ‘Weathering the Storm for Agriculture: A practical guide for farmers and land managers’. This practical guide is designed to take land managers through a process to help them adapt to climate change, while using mechanisms such as Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) and Local Nature Recovery Strategies (LNRS) to their advantage. The guide will: ✅ Help farmers to develop an adaptation plan for their farms. ✅ Enable those who directly work with the farming community to support land managers to do the same. ✅ Help to assess farm vulnerability to climate risks, the sorts of impacts that could most affect agriculture and what can be done to adapt. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/egDjUiMt #Adaptation #Sustainability #Agriculture #ClimateChange #ClimateAdaptation | Alan Carr | Jim Davies | Sarah Faulkner | Althea Hutchings
