Want to support a local community member in need? We are in urgent need of sleeping bags! The Outreach Workers distribute these bags as they walk the streets and parks of Lancaster City and travel to locations throughout the County to locate, meet, and build rapport with individuals and families who are living on the street, in vehicles, or other places not meant for human habitation. The goal is to engage with people in ways that help them connect with services when possible or assist them in securing permanent housing. Did you know that 1 out of every 2 families experiences a monthly diaper shortage? We distribute nearly 6,000 diapers a month, but we need your help to meet the growing demand. In honor of Women’s History Month, the Rotary Club of Redwood City is tackling a modern-day women’s issue—Menstrual Equity. Across the United States, millions of people suffer the consequences of not being able to afford period products. This includes lost income and loss of time spent in the classroom. Menstrual Hygiene is a human right, not a privilege. The Rotary donation drive will give all products to Redwood City Public Library’s Teen Center and Project READ for distribution to the community. A few facts to consider (State of the Period 2021): *More than 4 in 5 students in the U.S. have either missed class time or know someone who has missed class time because they did not have access to period products *Lower-income students and students of color, particularly Latinx students) are more impacted by lack of access than white and middle-income students *23% of Latinx students have had to choose between buying period products and food/clothing *Poor menstrual hygiene promotes negative health outcome, including urinary tract infections. Resilient Nonprofits - Let's Talk Sharing Your "Story" vs Sharing Your "Big Picture"(and how your big picture gets you more resources!) Nonprofits want to build Connections because that's what actually makes somebody a part of your donor community. That you have a connection of some kind. Otherwise, they're just a Contact. Your Connections are the ones giving to you. Your contacts can become connections, but they aren't going to give to you until something clicks. A common resource-gathering practice is to try and connect with new people or try to ramp up incoming resources by sharing your organization's 'story' or 'bigger picture'. The terms are often used interchangeably, but there is a huge difference and it impacts the response you receive. A Story is a contained unit. *These are the things we tell each other in passing.* Over a meal. While riding the elevator. When presenting our cause at an event. The Bigger Picture is a collection of smaller stories that in turn reveal a compelling and nuanced journey. An epic. *These are the things we gain the ability to see and hear through being present and listening when all the smaller stories were being told over time.* When nonprofits have a short window of time to try to connect with donors, you're really only seeing them in passing, here's the best advice I can offer. Don't just tell a story and then ask for your needs to be met (this is why so many nonprofit presentations end up sounding like sales pitches). Tell people your bigger picture **by sharing your needs and the individual stories that go with each one** (why is it a need?), covering a diverse range of needs, and then point your audience to a tool you have available that shows the continually updated, comprehensive list of all your organization's current needs and wants that they can access any time and where they can take direct action to help. Ensure each need has an explanation or context provided with it. And watch the resources roll in! It's a skill they excel at and their organization not only survived the pandemic but GREW during that time. Amazon stages inventory all over the county for quick distribution. When a seller wants to discontinue an item, they will enter a "removal order". The bad actors in the video picked random addresses. Responsible vendors have an expensive problem. When these products move backwards through the supply chain, someone must receive them, sort them, and warehouse them. At WIN we are experienced in handling donations of removal orders and distribute the inventory to non-profits that serve our communities. There is no cost to the donor.
