The fashion industry is a major trendsetter, but unfortunately, it's also a major polluter. 👖 There's a growing awareness of this issue, and there's a movement towards circular fashion models. These models aim to keep clothes in use for longer by focusing on repair, resale, and rental. However, the challenge remains: revenue streams for these models haven't quite caught up yet. This creates a concerning trend: fashion companies continue to ramp up production, consumers buy more, and clothes get worn less. (Source: Ellen MacArthur Foundation) This calls for a fundamental shift. We need to move away from the traditional "linear" business model where success is tied to producing more and more. ♻️ The good news is, there are amazing initiatives pioneering systemic change! One such example is the Fashion ReMake initiative by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation (check it out here:https://lnkd.in/e9r-sctp). Their mission? Decoupling revenue from production and resource use At oneUp, this is exactly the kind of challenge we like to take on. Are you a fashion brand looking to embrace a circular business model? We'd love to chat! Send me a message and let's see how we can collaborate. #Fashion #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #oneUp #Innovation

Turning tech-wary fashion veterans into digital fashion enthusiasts. Because the future of fashion needs both. | Keynote Speaker & Fashion Geek
🤔 Ever wondered how fashion brands can produce less but still rake in profits? The traditional fashion mantra has always been 'more production equals more profit.' But with growing concerns over sustainability, it's clear this approach needs a makeover. So, is it possible to pivot to a less-is-more strategy without compromising on earnings? 💼Let's face it: profit isn't just a nice-to-have; it's essential for supporting the livelihoods of countless individuals in the fashion sector. Enter Technology. It's the game-changer we've been waiting for, capable of ushering in sustainable, circular business models. Imagine producing exactly what's needed, slashing waste, and boosting efficiency through automation. That's the promise of on-demand manufacturing on a grand scale. 🌟 But it's not just about making less. It's about making things last. With technology, we could see a shift towards localized production, tapping into the skills of local craftspeople for repairs or upgrades and forming global networks to spread these sustainable practices far and wide. Imagine giving every piece of clothing a digital passport containing everything you need to know for its care, enhancement, or even transformation into something new. The possibilities are limitless. 🌍Technology is paving the way for a fashion industry that doesn't have to choose between profitability and sustainability. 💡Could tech be the answer to marrying sustainability with profit in fashion? 💡How can we leverage technological innovations to champion circularity and minimize waste? I believe technology holds the key to a future where the fashion industry thrives economically and environmentally. 💬What are your thoughts? Let's chat.

A big thank you to Fashion Roundtable ORG LTD for inviting me to an event celebrating the launch of Clare Press's new book 'Wear Next: Fashioning the Future'. As you can see the event was packed out with leaders in fashion sustainability, and we got to hear read throughs by luminaries such as Safia Minney, MBE FRSA, Christopher Raeburn, and Caryn Franklin 🤩 This quote from the event really sums up fashion sustainability for me: 'This is not a new idea, there are so many people who have already done this work, and when we are thinking about the future we are building on the present' This is so true about many wider aspects of sustainability too; we need to lean into things we already know (clearly linking to the importance of indigenous knowledge) and not try to reinvent the wheel for every challenge. The 16 chapters of Clare's book really sums this up for fashion: 1. Conscious 2. Fair 3. Slow 4. Even faster 5. Upcycled 6. Community 7. Less 8. Local 9. Global 10. Traceable 11. Repaired 12. Shared 13. Regenerative 14. Biointelligent 15. Robotic 16. Digital #sustainabledesign #sustainablefashion #regenerativefashion

Yesterday, The Mills Fabrica hosted Fashion Revolution's official press launch for their new #WhatFuelsFashion report. The report, which is a special edition of Fashion Revolution’s annual Global Fashion Transparency Index, offers an in-depth analysis of how big brand’s decarbonisation claims hold up. The report analyses and ranks 250 of the world’s biggest fashion brands and retailers based on their public disclosure of climate and energy-related actions, covering Accountability, Decarbonisation, Energy Procurement, Financing Decarbonisation, and Just Transition and Advocacy over 80 data points. Overall, the report finds that big fashion is falling short of much-needed climate investments. Looking at the limitations of the Global Fashion Summit in this week's newsletter. This year was the Summit’s 15th anniversary — the 15th year of all those talks. Vogue’s headline from this year’s report was 6 Key Takeaways From The 2024 Global Fashion Summit, Which Proved Urgent Action Is Still Needed, which could have been written every single year the Summit has been running, because, well, urgent action was needed 15 years ago. The world is supposed to be cutting its emissions in half by 2030, but fashion’s emissions are going to grow by 40% in that time, according to a recent report by the Apparel Impact Institute. Why hasn’t a conference been able to solve the industry’s problems? The fundamental issue behind it all is bigger than the Summit. Or even any brand, startup or non-profit. It is simply not possible to fix an industry as fundamentally broken as fashion through talk alone.
