“I was experiencing pain while walking that progressively got worse until I couldn’t even go for a walk,” says Steve Walsh, owner of Davis Oil in Keene. “I thought it was my hip that was out of whack. It had gotten to the point where it was affecting my mobility and exercise routines.” After working with a chiropractor with no progress, Walsh consulted his trusted primary care provider, David Segal, PA-C, who had been practicing family medicine at Cheshire for more than 30 years and had known him for 16 of those years. “Mr. Walsh is a sincere, kind gentleman who is a local businessman, community leader, devoted father, and family man. He gives time to the community.” Segal diagnosed Walsh’s scoliosis, prescribed some anti-inflammatory medications, ordered an MRI, and gave him a referral to Cheshire’s Outpatient Physical Rehabilitation. This is where Walsh met physical therapist Jim Hall, PT, DPT, OCS, COMT, and his pain journey started turning around. Read the full story of Steve's battle against back pain and how Cheshire helped him defeat it. 👇 https://lnkd.in/eZJTiQW4 #TeamCheshire #PT #physicaltherapy

Before you get up in arms, I'll start by saying that in the concussion therapy space, there’s both. Compassion and empathy. HOWEVER, there is research that says that as providers/clinicians, we want to be compassionate, not necessarily empathetic. Empathy means we are taking on our patients pain and suffering~ and I'll tell you right now that that puts our own nervous systems into sympathetic activation. On the flip side, compassion and compassionate care, is being able to hear and be there and to validate without taking the pain on as our own. That’s a really important boundary and distinction for providers to have because if we continuously take on our clients pain as our own pain… that will burn us out. And we most definitely will not be able to serve our clients in the way that they need us to. So what do you think... equally important? Or does this logic ring true for you? * * * * * #concussiontreatment #concussionrehab #PCS #postconcussionsyndrome #PCSsucks #sportsinjury #sportinjury #injuryrecovery #sicknotweak #sportsmedicine #physiotherapist #Nanaimo #britishcolumbia #concussionnerds

🕯️ Caring for dying critically ill patient in #ICU? One-size-fits all recipe for good death unachievable, but some common ground can be identified. Here, framework to prevent poor quality of dying and moral distress among staff/families: 1️⃣ what most important for patient/family? 2️⃣ invasive monitoring need to continue? 3️⃣ investigations need to continue? 4️⃣ can interventions/treatment be discontinued? 5️⃣ plan clearly communicated to stop treatment? 6️⃣ EOL symptoms anticipated/planned? 7️⃣ preferred/allowed anticipatory medication? 8️⃣ enough time to talk to the family? 9️⃣ patient’s death particularly challenging? 🔟 post-death considerations? Once shared (patient, family/surrogates, clinicians) decision to limit life-sustaining treatment reached, and approaching end-of-life recognised/accepted, pivotal caring for patient consistently with their values & preferences, ideally, as documented before mental capacity loss. #FOAMcc 🔓 https://rdcu.be/dHGQV

In Search of Self After Stroke: A Longitudinal Qualitative Study in the Context of Client-Centred Rehabilitation The recovery journey post-stroke is intricate and prolonged. Qualitative studies reveal that many stroke survivors undergo a sense of self and identity loss. Studies conducted one year post-stroke indicate the need for individuals to establish self-confidence and reconstruct their embodied self to enhance their quality of life. During their hospital stay, stroke survivors may harbour unrealistic expectations about post-discharge life, only to realise their actual capacity for activities upon returning home. https://lnkd.in/g2SeKtMd This article was compiled in our latest “The Wonderful World of Allied Health Newsletter”.
