🌎 Our team at Yulu Impact Communications tuned into many sessions during #ClimateWeekNYC to learn from experts about the progress, opportunities, and challenges of reaching net zero. 👩⚕️ One stand-out takeaway was a new theme in this year’s programming - “health.” 🆘 Climate change is already impacting the health and livelihoods of communities worldwide, and it’s critical we take steps to protect those impacted today, as well as plan for the multitude of future climate scenarios depending on the success of our collective action. The other perspectives we valued hearing include the impact of climate change on: 1. Children's mental health 2. Healthcare workers and their roles 3. Traditionally underserved communities, particularly racialized folx and those impacted by redlining 4. The Global South 5. Our planet's biodiversity (*while voiceless, human-made observations acknowledge this consequence) 🙏 Thanks to Climate Group for bringing different lenses to your programming, and enabling access for those not in NYC - you've given our team much to reflect on!

3 things you might not know about cities: 1) 60% of the world lives in cities, 2) They generate 70% of global emissions, and 3) The effects of climate change in cities disproportionally affect vulnerable people. At Climate Tech Time, Mehrnaz Ghojeh who has worked with C40 Cities and is now building a startup called Okhtapus as part of the Zinc accelerator program highlighted how crucial it is that climate solutions consider everyone. It is absolutely possible to plan cities to benefit the climate AND support all segments of society. A great example comes from the city of Bogotá: out of 3,000 bikeshare cycles introduced, 150 were designed for people with disabilities and 300 for women with children. 🚵♂️ We need the leaders of our cities to make more equitable decisions on climate solutions. Do you agree? Check out Mehrnaz’s talk on Climate Connection’s website here: https://lnkd.in/dWzDXk8z #ClimateAction #UrbanDevelopment #SustainableCities

2023 has been a year of transition and renewal. At The Rockefeller Foundation, we revitalized past initiatives and launched new ones, focusing on climate and human opportunity. Less than a year after launching the Foundation’s 5-year climate strategy, our annual report is shared to help inform our progress. Together with our allies and partners, we: ⚡Connected 1.2 million people to new or improved energy systems 🥗 Improved nutrition security for 137 million people 👩⚕️Supported over 500,000 community health workers across 13 countries 💰 Mobilized over $1 billion in capital for sustainable development The climate crisis demands that every institution reimagine how it works. For us, that means developing and scaling people-centered climate solutions—across our program areas: energy, food, health, and finance. Please enjoy the full report. https://lnkd.in/es5GPYbM #RFImpactReport

Just wrapped up an incredible youth advocacy training session on Ocean-Climate Connection with Armon Alex, co-founder of the Gulf of Mexico Youth Climate Summit! Here are some powerful takeaways that resonated with and shaped my own perspectives on climate advocacy: 💡 Beyond Carbon Tunnel Vision: We explored how climate solutions intersect with multiple challenges - from fast fashion to mental health. It's about rethinking consumption patterns that fit tomorrow's needs! 💡 Power of Local Action: The most effective climate solutions emerge when we think globally but act locally. Success rates soar when frontline communities lead the conversation and shape what victory looks like in their areas. 💡 Intersectional Approach: Environmental challenges don't exist in isolation. They're deeply intertwined with social, economic, and political issues. Creating a just and equitable future means considering all these dimensions. 💡 Indigenous Wisdom: A key learning was the importance of authentic indigenous inclusion - not just as consultants, but as integral voices in shaping solutions. Being a lifelong learner means incorporating non-exploitive actions and ensuring all vital perspectives are at the table. 💡 Empathetic Leadership: The most impactful advocacy comes from genuinely listening and empathizing. It's about telling stories that connect people to the problems. Thank you Laura J. and Jihyun Lee from the World Ocean Day team for an enlightening session on building bridges between ocean conservation and climate action. Excited to put these principles into practice! #ClimateAction #OceanConservation #YouthAdvocacy #Sustainability #30x30

What are locally-led climate solutions? Locally-led climate solutions (LCS) are solutions created by and for communities - from the grassroots up - that take into account the specificities and vulnerabilities of the groups involved. Thinking about climate change from a human rights-based approach, as community and socio-environmental philanthropy does, proves fundamental in promoting climate mitigation, adaptation, and financing strategies that, at the same time, are focused on reducing poverty and strengthening the recognition of and access to rights, so that the transition to a low-carbon economy is indeed inclusive and sustainable, promoting climate justice. The member organizations of Comuá Network have already financed, developed, and/or co-created more than 100 locally-led climate solutions (created by and for communities, considering the specificities and vulnerabilities of the groups involved). They operate in different territories of the country, in all biomes, valuing local and ancestral knowledge, solutions, and technologies, and at the same time strengthening mitigation and adaptation actions. During the Transforming Philanthropy Month, we will present some of these solutions. The month's programming will be available on the website soon. Stay tuned: https://lnkd.in/d8MUJUyw #TransformingPhilanthropyMonth
