I’m proud to share that the iMasons Climate Accord Governing Body has issued an open letter calling suppliers serving data centers to adopt Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs).   As a member of the iMasons Climate Accord Governing Body, Schneider Electric stands with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Digital Realty, Google, Meta and Microsoft in an open letter to the industry where we are calling for greater transparency of Scope 3 emissions among suppliers serving data centers. Adoption of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) will accelerate efforts to achieve net-zero emissions. Yesterday it was announced that the iMasons Climate Accord Governing Body- Schneider Electric, Meta, Microsoft, Digital Realty, Google and Amazon Web Services (AWS) are joining forces to help #decarbonize digital infrastructure. In an Open Letter to the industry, the governing body is calling for greater transparency of Scope 3 emissions among suppliers serving #datacenters as part of broader efforts to reduce the industry's carbon footprint. As of 2024, 81% of Schneider Electrics product turnover is covered by EPDs, and we continue to push for more. We are so proud to be making an #IMPACT together with these incredible companies, helping to push for a more #sustainable future for generations to come. This morning, iMasons Climate Accord Governing Body took the next big step to help reduce #carbonemissions in the #digitalinfrastructure industry by releasing an open letter for increased adoption of Environmental Product Declarations (#EPDs) to bring #transparency to #Scope3 emissions and detail #embodiedcarbon in #equipment and #materials. Promoting industry-wide adoption of EPDs is a critical step in enabling carbon-informed decision making and furthering our journey toward #netzero, and a powerful example of how #collaboration is key to solving the pressing challenges of our time. Schneider Electric supports and encourages the adoption of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for data centres. By adopting EPDs, we aim to reduce #Scope3 emissions and improve transparency and efficiency. But why Scope 3 specifically? It’s crucial because these indirect #emissions often make up a large part of a company’s #carbonfootprint. You can't manage what you can't measure! Along with my fellow iMasons Climate Accord Governing Body members, I'm excited to support this open letter to the industry to bring #transparency to #sustainability and #Scope3 emissions. In today's environment, most products don't disclose their embodied emissions at point of purchase. Companies have to backsolve for impact using imperfect modeled estimates, which makes it difficult for teams to make real-time product selection decisions in pursuit of #NetZero. This letter calls for broader adoption of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). Think of an #EPD like a "nutrition label" for product carbon emissions. If the digital infrastructure industry is to stick to its "carbon diet", we need to be able to count our "carbon calories" !

As someone who is responsible for calculating their company's greenhouse gas inventory, I can't stress how important this is. Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) improve the transparency and accuracy of Scope 3 emissions calculations. Google recently released their most recent environmental report, here's a blog outlining some of the mayor milestones and upcoming initiatives. Finboot has built and runs our Green Supply Chain Management solutions on Google Cloud. Considering our own commitment to sustainability and to helping our clients accelerate their own decarbonisation, it is vital for us to closely follow on Google's commitment and advances to reduce their own environmental impact. Among other things, this report covers how Google is driving sustainability across their operations. Some of the highlights include: 🎯 Google maintains their target to reach net zero emissions across their operations and value chain by 2030! 🔋 10 (out of 40) regions achieved at least 90% Carbon-pollution Free Electricity (CFE). With a global average across all 40 regions at 64 % CFE ✍ They signed additional contracts to increase their of clean energy capacity in several regions, including our own hosting region. 👀 They are also looking at the Supply Chain!!! Which of course it is very interesting for us! They are asking their largest hardware suppliers (based on spend) to commit to 100% renewable energy match by 2029. They are also actively reducing the carbon footprint of their packaging... I hope to see this expand to their devices sooner rather than later. 🔴 It's not all good news! Google also reports a 13% YoY increase in their GHG emissions. Partially driven by a 37% YoY increase of their scope 2 emissions. Note that 75% of their emissions are Scope 3 and only 1% of Scope 1 remains. Google: Our 2024 Environmental Report Google's 2024 Environmental Report highlights their efforts to use technology, particularly AI, to drive environmental sustainability and minimize their carbon footprint. The report outlines their advancements in building energy-efficient infrastructure, such as the Trillium TPU, which is 67% more energy-efficient than previous models. Google has implemented AI for various climate actions, including fuel-efficient routing and flood prediction, and aims to reduce 1 gigaton of carbon emissions annually by 2030. Despite a 13% increase in GHG emissions in 2023 due to higher data center energy consumption, Google remains committed to achieving net-zero emissions and advancing clean energy projects globally.
